what are your go to middle of the night snacks? I woke up for the first time last night and didn't know what to grab. I also have GD so I have to keep that in mind. thanks!!!
I always keep string cheese and dried sausage in the fridge for that reason. I have GD and it's been hard to fight the urge to devour a bowl of cereal at midnight, but these things generally help. If I absolutely have to have carbs, I will grab a handful of pretzels.

@chavemann10 cereal is EXACTLY what I ran to and hung my head in serious shame. I'll go grab cheese and sausage today! Thanks @NTHBubs119 pretzels too! @toccoaparker I thought I was supposed to stay away from watermelon. I'm going to ask my dietician bc that sounds amazing! I'm so tired of blueberries.
String cheese or the baybel cheese. Since that have some fat it doesn't take much to tide you over. I'm also totally comfortable eating string cheese if it's been out for a few hours, though I know others may not be. Its nice to just have it on my nightstand and not have to get up. And if I don't need it DS always eats it in the AM.
I think the cheese, cured meats, and nuts are the best suggestions for GD snacking. I'm on insulin now for GD so my endocrinologist told me that if I stick to 1 carb snacking (like an apple or 1 cup of strawberries) I don't need any insulin but if I overdo it and have 2-4 carbs (not recommended to do regularly but it happens) then I need to take an insulin dose an hour after. All of this though is dependent on my severity of GD.
I do not have GD but I can feel my blood sugar getting low sometimes and this has happened a couple times in the middle of the night or late at night, I go for a spoon full of peanut butter and it works!
I have GD too. My favorite go to snack is 1/3 cup of trail mix that consists of dried cranberries, cashews and almonds. Peanut butter or a glass of milk always work too!
