Questions for Doctor/Midwife

I know some of us are already having their first appointments. What are some questions you're going to ask your doctor/midwife? I'm starting to compile my list. FTM so this is all new to me. :)

Re: Questions for Doctor/Midwife

  • I plan to ask about family centered C-sections. I had an unplanned C-section with my son, and I'm curious to see if family centered C-sections are an option if I happen to need one again. I'm sure I'll come up with more questions before my appointment next Monday. :)

I'm getting a new OB for this one so I already have a little list with my main biggies:
How often do you do drug-free births?
How often do you do C-sections?
If I go over the due date, how far are you willing to let me go over before inducing?
Do you support walking around during labor?

If she passes those questions I'll stick with her, everything else is pretty fluid with pregnancy.

Edited to Add: How many doctors are in your practice? And Do you do 3D ultrasounds? I want one this pregnancy and I want to know if I'll have to go somewhere else or if I can do them there.

  • I'm just starting to compile my list too but when it comes to specifics regarding the my Dr. I'm going to wait until my 2nd appointment. i'm not actually going to be seeing my regular dr. for my first appt because they wanted me ASAP and it was going to be another 3-4 weeks to get in to see her. Womp womp
  • I had pretty much no questions this time or last time. For being such a high strung person, I'm pretty laid back when it comes to pregnancy and parenting.

I'd make sure you're on the same page regarding what you want your birth experience to be like. You don't have to know exactly what you want now, but you don't want to get to 30+ weeks and find out your doctor won't support something that is really important to you. Everything else you can ask about it as it comes up and becomes relevant.
