Scared of labor ... The unknown

Does anyone have anxiety or scared of labor ???? This is my first and I have never been in the hospital for anything except to visit someone.... I can't enjoy the last week of my pregnancy cause I'm so worried about the hospital an pain and if I'm going to be able to tolerate the pain... Any tips?

    You will get through it. All natural emotions. Soon the anxiety will be replaced with excitement over meeting your little one!

    Read up! Ina May Gaskin's book on Natural Childbirth, or Hypnobirthing. You will get through it. And do join the other threads - lots of support here to make you feel like part of the sisterhood.

    Try to be optimistic, visualize a positive outcome instead of a negative one. Even knowing that things don't always go as planned, it's probably best to go into it with positive expectations. From what I've read being more relaxed helps make labor easier in most cases. Do you have a coach/support person you trust who can help you stay calm during labor?

    I'm a STM and still nervous. It's totally normal. Talk to your support person and OB so they know how you feel. There are lots of ways to deal with anxiety, you'll just have to find the approach you like the best. I agree that reading up will help so you at least don't feel clueless. Good luck!

    Last night I had false labor, was really just experiencing bad gas & pains.  But it surely made me anxious. So I'm hoping and praying that when labor does actually begin that I dont have an anxiety attack.

    I was really scared of the whole thing. But my labor and delivery turned out really well! I actually feel kind of empowered by the entire experience. DH called my a superhero and I pretty much agreed! It's kind of incredible, looking back, to realize I accomplished this really incredible thing. : ) My point is that while it is scary it can also be a cool experience. Try to enjoy it. You will be in good hands.

    Another thought that occurred to me recently and seems to help...think of it as climbing a mountain. And at the top of the mountain, instead of just a beautiful view, you get a baby:) Everybody knows mountain climbing is hard and exhausting, and even if you've prepared for it, it's still going to be an unknown experience because you won't know for sure what kind of weather or terrain you'll come across. But think of the happy faces of the women in the birth announcement thread who have successfully climbed that mountain! They are so proud and happy. That will be you, after just a day or so of hard climbing!!
