Psychic Cat?

So, my cat - who enjoys being petted and purrs like a motorboat when he's in a good mood but generally does NOT like being in my lap - has been crawling all over me since just before I found out I'm pregnant. He's all over me and wants nothing more than to lay on my body somewhere (this includes my head and other such awkward positioning). The night before I got my BFP, this cat crawled right on my belly and went peacefully to sleep while I stared at him in utter disbelief. This is going to sound nuts but...it's like he knows. He's been glued to my side for two weeks. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Do your pets seem to sense something?

Re: Psychic Cat?

  • We don't have pets, but I've heard of similar things happening, and pets just "knowing" when something is up. Could be a change in hormones and pets sensing that?

Pets have a strange way of knowing things. My dog has been up my butt for a week now (he's usually up my husband's butt), so he knows.

My Mom had a cat that she swears knew she had cancer before she did. Apparently the cat would knead exactly where the cancer was and only there.

@E3A7AGGIE, that they might sense hormonal shifts somehow seems pretty logical. I was reading a little bit about it online and that seems to be a popular (and I think sensible) opinion. @MarcoMama86, I've heard of cats and dogs saving people's lives by doing things like that. It's amazing what they perceive!
  • My cats get way more snuggly when I'm pregnant. They aren't usually distant or anything, just content to be near instead of on. When I'm pregnant they are in my face purring, lol

  • I don't have any pets but my sister has two headstrong standard poodles. They always need to be told several times to get down off of whoever just walked in the door.  One of the dogs didn't even try to jump on me and the other one only had to be told once. This was two days before I got my BFP.  Reading all these stories made me go "oh yea...no wonder..."

  • My cats definitely knew before I did. One who is friendly but not cuddly started kneading my belly two days before my BFP, and the others all seem to take shifts watching over me. Seriously, one will be on the sofa next to me, get up, and another takes their place. I love my new entourage. :)
  • ...and in the time it took to write that, I had 3 different cats come up and stand on my belly. :D
  • My 2 cats and dog are all over me... but they're also all over DH. Haven't noticed any changes to the cuddle factor since getting my BFP. Still covered in fur. :)

My dogs are usually more cuddly when i was pregnant before but this time around they seem a little more distant
  • I have two cats. One will only enjoy attention if he asks for it, the other we call an attention whore. She talks a lot and she seems to yell at you just cuz she wants to be pet. But seriously, and only in the past week or so, my AW cat really has been glued to my side, even more than normal. She cuddles in bed with me at every opportunity now.
