Diminished Ovarian Reserve? IUI 1

Hi, I am new here, finally got the courage to join. I thought it would be good to talk to others struggling with infertility, and maybe see if I can find some others going through what I am as a way to find comfort and to be help to them also, I know we all need to vent.

I live in California, I am 27 with Diminished Ovarian Reserve. I was diagnosed in March, my husband is 30 and perfect, with high sperm counts and motility.  On June 5th I had my first IUI after completing Clomid Days 5-9, 150 units of Menopur, and Novarel Trigger Shot. I am currently doing progesterone suppositories twice a day and this weekend I will be at the end of my 2ww.  Before IUI, when I was diagnosed, my Dr had me start taking DHEA and CoQ10 along with my prenatal gummies. I am cramping and not feeling too good about my outcome. I know I need to stay positive, but I do feel the symptons of AF coming (cramping, bloated, irritable), and that scares me and breaks my heart. But...hopefully a miracle happens and I get my first ever positive.

Is there anyone else out there with DOR? What is your ttc process?  Also - anyone with DOR that has success stories to share? What process did you do, and supplements?

To anyone who even cared enough to read this, thank you.

It has really been hard for me to find anyone with DOR to talk to.  I know they are out there, just cant seem to find them anywhere I have looked.

    Hi.

I'm so sorry for your struggles. 27 is so young to have a DOR diagnosis, but you'll see from these boards that it's becoming more and more common. Let me give you some good news: age is a better indicator of fertility than DOR. While you likely have a limited supply of eggs, they are likely also a majority of healthy eggs, so if you can retrieve them, inseminate them and catch a good month with your uterus (if there is such a thing :) ) - you still have a great shot.

My prognosis was also DOR, though I am much older than you (I was 40 at the time) and it's to be expected at that age. I actually skipped all the IUIs and went directly to IVF, though again there is a difference because of my age and the likelihood of low quality eggs. The good news is that I was able to get pregnant and am currently watching DD play. I'm actually ramping up for another IVF round with hopes of TTC a sibling.

With my first IVF, I didn't do anything. Literally. No supplements. Reduced alcohol and caffeine. That was it. This time around my numbers are worse (for my first my AMH was 1.7 and my FSH 15, this time my AMH is .44 and my FSH is the same). I've been on CoQ10 for months now and we'll consider DHEA in the next week or so. I'm also doing estrogen priming this time around.

Best of luck. It *is* possible and you have age on your side.

  • @jnissa I am so happy you were able to conceive and pray that your DD gets a sibling :) I wish I had gone to the dr sooner, but with this Diagnosis, I am happy I caught it sooner rather than later. It was hard to swallow when the dr told me I had DOR, I had no idea what it was before. I do have time on my side, but when you are going through it, it just doesn't feel that way, you know? Since this is our first IUI cycle, if it does not work I think we will try it a few  more times, if it doesn't work, then I think we will move along to IVF.

I hope everything goes well for your family :)

  • I have recently been diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at the age of 32. I'm not sure if this is the similar to deminished ovarian reserve? I have been recommended egg donation due to either none or a low number of eggs. My journey is just beginning so I am unable to offer any advice just best wishes and lots of luck

My DH and I began TTC in 2010. He had an undesceded testicle so we knew we could have issues. I was 30 and he was 35. Anyway we were diagnosed with male factor and I was "perfect". We did 2 rounds of IVF with ICSI and zero luck. The dr basically wrote us off and me. I went from "perfect" to being talked to about donor eggs etc. we were in shock. I asked about different protocols and on and on. Anyway we left.

We found another new clinic in town that tested us both again and felt we were candidates for an IUI And that I have DOR. My AMH at 32 was .75. I did 3 more IUIS but basically my last IUI I told my dr to treat me like a 45 year old women and medicate me. I knew I wasn't going to over stimulate and I know with my egg quality issues I wouldn't be octomom. And this is exactly what she did. I took more meds for that IUI than I did for any of my IVFS. Well it worked and I got pregnant with twins, ended up with 1 beautiful baby boy.

Fast forward and here I am 35 with the same AMH .75 and trying for baby #2. With DOR AND TERRIBLE SPERM. Began my first injection last night. Best of luck to you. And I agree with the above comment. Just Bc you have DOR does not mean that you don't have good eggs. And yes your age is a good thing Bc at 27 your eggs are good. Keep your head up and know it can work!

Hi ladies. I am new to the boards but was happy to see a thread specific to DOR. After a year of trying, including 3 months of Clomid, we met with a RE, and after the normal tests found out I have low ovarian reserve. I am 29 years old so this came as quite a surprise to my husband and I. My insurance won't cover IVF without trying less expensive options first. We will be starting our first round of IUI with Clomid and Trigger shot in July.

I am thankful we have insurance coverage but am anxious to get going as I know DOR only gets worse with time! It's interesting your RE had you take CoQ10 and DHEA. When I asked my RE about these he told me NOT to take them, and said there were studies that showed they could even be harmful. So many people say their Drs tell them to take these...it's hard to know what is right. Hang in there ladies.
  • Good luck prayingforbabyh. Are you still in your 2ww? The insanely annoying thing about early pregnancy symptoms is that they are VERY similar to that of AF. Try not to give up hope until your results come back; we are hoping for you
  • @monkey2611 I am SOO sorry to hear that :( They are actually different, but both equally not good news. Keep us updated on your journey, I hope the best for you.

@meganfauer I am thinking this next cycle, if this one is unsuccessful that I will ask for stronger meds the next cycle also. Our doctor was very optimistic with my follilcles, the sperm count and the timing of the IUI, so I am hoping it works, but unfortunately have had my pms symptons show up, so we may be heading in for another round 2 iui. I hope all goes well and you get your BFP for # 2.

@laurl1064 I hope July is your month! For us, the longer it takes, the shorter amount of time we have, so I hope we all get a BFP soon. Yes, all dr's have different views which is hard when you compare yourself to what others are doing, but I have done my research in these medicines and I am confident in my doctor and his advice to take them.

@fatpony Thank you! Actually, today is day 14 but I did not test. I know that sounds crazy, but my hormones have been insane so I figured I would wait til tomorrow, the first day of my "missed period" or see if my period shows. Right now, I am having every symptom that AF is coming, and unfortunately feel like I know my body all to well. I will keep you updated, hopefully I am wrong, and I get a P.  I am praying for it!

  • Hi!  I have diminished reserve, and I'm doing medicated IUIs.  I'm in my TWW too, after my third IUI.  I also did DHEA and CoQ10 for a couple months before we started.

I'm still crossing my fingers, so I can't say if it's going to work.  I'm hopeful, but trying to be realistic.  I am a bit older than you, and age really does matter!  For what it's worth, my doctor has confirmed with ultrasound that I'm ovulating.  Whether my eggs are any good remains to be seen, but you only need one good egg!

Don't be discouraged if things don't happen the first time.  This is a process, and we need to expect the road to be a bit challenging.  That just means you need some good, strong boots, and be ready to walk a bit.  It may be more of a marathon than a sprint.

    Good luck tomorrow!
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Okay just an update. AF was expected yesterday and did not show up, my cramps are gone, but my pregnancy tests all came back negative. This morning I took another test, negative. I went pee for the second time today and it was a little bit of dark brown blood. Went pee again, and nothing. Not to sure what to think of it. I'll update if AF shows up. Thank you for your prayers!

  • An update on my IUI, today I went for my ultrasound and I only had one follicle on my right ovary. I am totally frystrated. I cancelled the IUI and we are just going to trigger and do timed intercourse. My DH sperm are useless so this is basically a waste but with DOR i know my odds and I dont want to do an IUI with only one egg, Id rather save my money,

I am so sorry about the late period and negative pregnancy test. That is the WORST!! its like a mind game. GOod luck
