anyone else gain a lot of weight

I know that weight is not supposed to be spoken about but I keep on seeing post that girls are not gaining any weight.  I gained 16 pounds, I have always been considered thin so it is not that I am naturally an over eater but I am freaking hungry. Can someone reassure me that I am not just being very indulgent?

  • Everybody's different!  Just listen to what your Doctor tells you.

  • What does your Dr. say? I'm sure if you're worried, you've asked her, right?

Everyone is different. If your doctor, isn't lecturing you then don't worry!

  • I tend to gain a lot when I'm pregnant, but I was borderline underweight before getting pregnant, so I figure I just need to gain more than other ladies.

I actually gained (gasp!) 49 pounds with my first pregnancy.  The baby was an average size and I lost all of the weight within 6 or so months.

Just try to make healthy choices with your eating (for the most part), and you'll be fine!  There's not really a lot you can do.  If you're hungry, you really should eat.

  • eat when you're hungry.  it's not being over indulgent if you're hungry and eating healthy.  i've gained almost 30lbs so far and my Dr hasn't said a word about it.

  • I dont think you are being indulgent. I might slow it down a bit but since you are thin you have more to gain. Im a plumper person and I have actually lost weight. The Dr. said it would catch up to me. But im lucky enough to crave healthy food. (something I DONT crave on a normal basis! hehe) Just try to watch your salt and calories a bit and you will be fine! • well i started out 135 to 140 before i got pregnant...i am 20 weeks and i haven't been to the doc scene nov. 23 but when i went i was 154...but i don't care how much i gain...unless my doc tells me other wise.
  • I gained 16lbs very quicky, and now, by week 20...it hasn't stalled but has definatley slowed down.

I think honestly, for me, I ate because I was nervous of being pregnant, and now I'm eating to satisfy my hunger so maybe thats why I gained fast early in my pregnancy.

As long as your doctor is doing weight checks, and isn't telling you anything to be concerned about, you should be fine.  Every woman is different remember, some gain a ton (60lbs) during their pregnancy, and some gain an average weight (25-35lbs).

Not every woman is affected the same during pregnancy - everyone is different.

  • i am not worried health wise because my doctor has not said anything and i am not eating fast food all day, I just sometimes just feel bad that I gained a lot of weight.  I know I am prgnant and should be gaing weight but it just seems that most girls on this board say that they only gained 2 pounds so far
  • I'm naturally thin also and I gained over 60lbs with my first.  At first my doc said it was normal for thin girls to gain more weight because your body needs the extra energy but toward the end when I was gaining like 7lbs a week she got a little more concerned. lol  I was eating anything and everything that sounded good to me.  I lost all of my weight plus some in 10 months without diet or exercise. Embarrassed  I learned my lesson though and don't want to be as big this time so instead of eating fries I grab a banana.  Crying  Although I miss eating whatever I feel like I'm 9lbs lighter at this point in my PG than I was with the last.

  • I gained 15 pounds, and I am a heavy girl to begin with, and so far my doc or mw has not said anything about it.  She said in total the most I should gain is 25, which is fine with me becuase that is how much I lost before I got preg, so I know it will come off agian (hopefully).  I think all women are diffrent, and not to stress unless your doc says something to you.   Just watch wahat you eat.... I am on a stricter diet because I may have gallstones.
  • I've gained 14 lbs so far, and my doctor said that if I wasn't thin to start with, she'd give a word of caution. But I only eat when I'm hungry...yeah, okay, so that's all the time, but my doctor wasn't worried about it. Exercise regularly and eat everything that the baby wants. We're pregnant, we're supposed to gain weight, and everyone gains at different rates.
  • honey..iyou're not alone! 'm freaking out!  I'm 23 weeks and have gained 20lbs!!! It's not that I stuff my face it's just that I didn't eat much prior to being pregnant and now I actually eat full meals and snacks! I'm trying to be more active since you're not supposed to reduce calorie intake when you're pregnant.
  • I've gained 20 pounds and I really don't give a ***.  Pregnancy hasn't been my finest momement.  I'm healthy and so is baby so I don't care.

  • I just want to say that I really appreciate the tone of all of the above responses.  I made the mistake of posting a similar question early in the game and was really depressed when everyone responded with less than understanding feedback.  Thanks for everyone being open and supportive.  And, yes, I have gained a little too much, but I'm pretty sure I'll be the one stuck with it in the end.  :)  This made me smile.
