What time do you put baby to sleep????

i was just wondering what time do you get ready for bedtime with your infant??? I feel like I start to late. What's your ladies routine and time you start??

Re: What time do you put baby to sleep????

  • We've gotten into a feeding schedule(on accident) where ds eats about 6pm then 9pm ish. Usually I'll change him into his pjs before I feed him so I can just put him to sleep. He will sleep sometimes through the night, sometimes wake up for a 2:30 feeding.

  • We shoot for 8-9pm. Sometimes she doesn't really settle for her longest stretch of sleep until 11-12 though. She usually has a 5-6 hour stretch and then a 3 hour stretch.

  • We try to keep LO up from 7-9 and then start getting ready for a target bed time of 10 which just is not working. He's usually wide awake at 10 or sleepy but refuses to go down. So I end up with him in the living room while H gets to be all cozy in bed since he has work. ; (
  • She eats around 7:30/8 and that's when we put her pajamas on and get a bath if she needs one. It's convenient because that's when we are doing my toddlers bedtime routine. She goes to sleep around 8:30/9 while we cuddle her downstairs and then eats again and gets swaddled at 10:30/11. After that feeding we put her in her crib. She wakes around 3am to eat again and 7am to eat.

How old are your LOs? Mine is 4 weeks and sleeps randomly throughout the day for 3/4 hours at a time. She usually falls asleep around 10/11 and sleeps for 3 hours and then gets up for a bottle and will sleep 4/5 hours after that bottle.
  • Working at having her in her sleeping gown, fed, and asleep in her bassinet by 10 pm.  On a good night (at 3 weeks old) I get a 2 hour chunk of sleep, then a feeding at midnight, then back to bed by 1:30-2 (she's a slow nurser), and hopefully, asleep until 6am.  This is pretty rare though, yet.  My goal would be 3 hours of sleep at a time, ideally for the next few weeks until her weight gets up.

I've started full 'water baths', so since the mood is better in the morning, I've been doing it then for the first few.  This will be part of the nighttime routine again soon though.
  • When do they start sleeping for longer than three hours cuz I'm still waiting on that. ...??
  • My guy is almost 4 weeks. We bathe him around 7:30 then we snuggle big brother and read a book. Then I feed him and he's in bed asleep by 8-8:30ish. He is then up around 1 and again at 4:30/5ish...
Once we started trying for this routine he fell into it really naturally. It's not always on time to a tee but for the most part it stays on schedule
  • Bedtime is whenever Miss Olivia isn't attached to either my left or right boob...

She's almost 3 weeks old and I'm starting to feel like I'll never be able to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time.

    This exactly.

We start around 8-830 but between a bath, changing diapers (feels like ten times), feeding (twice) and rocking/reading, she finally falls asleep around 10. But once she's down, she gives us a 7hour stretch!
  • My three week old settles at 11 ish every night. She cluster feeds, and poops about six times, and needs burped for a good hour from about 8-9 and finally will settle for 11. She wakes around 230-330 ( sometimes will even skip that feeding) and again around 6. I find that pretty good for a breastfed baby.
  • We just started trying a bedtime with our LO. last night she slept in her crib for eight hours straight! I made sure that she had a fresh diaper, pjs, was full and in a very tight swaddle. We also use a sleep sheep and a fan for white noise.

Also a nurse earlier this week suggested that we take muslin swaddle blankets and roll them tightly in place next to the arms of LO. They are not anywhere near her face and they help so if she tries to roll while she's sleeping she stays put and doesn't wake herself up. Seems to be working so far but I'm well aware it could change anytime!

What?? Every 3 hours is bedtime!! ;-)

This. It's more like which of LOs bedtimes do I decide is mine too.
We're still at this stage too. Right now, DH and I stagger our bedtimes around my last pumping session. He goes to bed at 10 and I go at midnight. He gets the earlier bedtime because he takes the "overnight shift" with LO since I have her all day.

@marthaudani preach! I'm in the same boat. It's a mixed bag of what will happen every night, no matter what we try. Though I'm told it won't last forever, a friend of mine was hesitantly honest that she's still going through this with her 6 month old :'(
  • 5 month old great lol.
  • My baby girl is 5 weeks old... I get ready for bed with bath, sometimes baby massage, then put her into her Halo sleepsack and breastfeed before bed. I try to get in a full feeding so she doesn't fall asleep in the middle of it I keep her awake until I feel like she's full/satisfied. This is rough with breastfeeding lol you don't know how much they're getting! But anyway, she's usually feeding by 9:30, down for the night by 10, and most nights sleeps SEVEN hours straight before waking again at 5 or 6 to eat again. I couldn't believe when I woke up and 7 hours later she would be sleeping still! She's gaining weight amazingly so I don't worry about her not waking to eat. She's already 10.5 pounds lol I think it's because I try really hard to keep her in the daylight during the day.. Keeping blinds open, going on walks in light etc, and super relaxed and dark at night? But I really don't know what I did! I do know I seriously couldn't care for a toddler on top of caring for a newborn so way to go ladies who have multiple kids!

Where exactly are they placed?! We use the halo sleep sack but one day I won't be able to lol so I'm curious about this trick!

You guys bathe your babies everyday?
  • I bathe her every day but only use soap every other day! The warm bath really relaxes her :)
  • @ellekru we put them on either side of her body when she is laying in the crib tightly swaddled.we rolled them into logs and they are surprisingly stiff and then put them close to LOs body near her elbows when she is swaddled so if she goes to rock from side to side they are there to keep her from doing that. It seems to be working to keep her from waking up.
  • It's really based on her feedings and day-time naps which differ every day. I put her down in the pack n play around 9-11, I try to space it to where she'll be sleeping when I'm putting my toddler to bed. He's got a routine. Baby's got evening naps and singing as a way to get her prepared for a routine. I don't have a routine myself so...really I just go on baby's schedule and my toddler doesn't mind waiting until 11:30 on busy nights.

Then when she wakes at 3-8am I feed her and change her but don't sing. I want her to know it's still bed time so I either snuggle up with her or stick her in her cocoon and back in the pack n play

  • Where does your baby sleep?
  • I bath him 6.30 give him his bedtime bottle 7.00 and then he's in bed for 7.30. He will then wake up at 2.30 for a feed and then go straight back to sleep till 5.30-6.00!

My baby girl is six weeks, breastfed. I usually start around 9. Will change her and put her in pjs, we do a bath every other night. She will feed for 30 minutes, then burp and fall asleep around 10/1030. I might start moving the time back by half an hour or so.
The most she will sleep is three hours at a time. Same for day time too.
I just want to say it's okay and normal if your baby doesn't sleep for 5-7 hours straight at this point. Especially if breastfed.
  • Our 3 week old is cluster feeding lately and going through a growth spurt. For a couple days we purposely woke him up every 2 hours after 5 pm to feed so he would sleep with a fuller belly. My husband takes the first shift with a bottle (9 or 10 pm feeding) so I can rest a few hours and get up for he 11 or midnight feeding since he works.

We had a couple 5-6 hour stretches and now it's back to 3-4 hours. Typically we get baby ready for bed around 9 or 10 and bring him into the bassinet in pack n play in our room when he's fully asleep or once my husband comes to bed.
  • My baby generally falls asleep after nursing around 8/8:30 but wakes up every 2 to 3 hours to nurse
  • I do a last feeding at 8:00 and put DS down by 8:30. He cluster feeds from 6:30-8:00. He usually sleeps until about 3:30 and wakes for a feeding before going down for another 3 hours. So, I get a 7 hour stretch and then about 3 hours. First stretch is in his crib, 2nd stretch in Rock n play. He's 7 weeks. I'm trying to start bed time a little earlier to coincide with his sisters bedtime.

  • At 6 weeks we started at around 6 pm for her to go to bed at 7. She would wake up around midnight to eat and then 4 then go back to sleep til 8 AM. This last until about 10 weeks and the she would only wake up at 3 or 4 am and then go back to sleep until 7 or 8. At about 5/6 months she started sleeping 7 pm-7am. She is now 2 and a half and goes to bed at 7:30 and sleeps straight thru until 7 am. We ALWAYS put her to bed awake starting when she was new newborn and it has made things so easy for us. No special night time routine. Just pjs and teeth brushing then bed.
