How do you stay awake during the day?

Seriously!? When 1:00 hits in the afternoon I cannot keep my eyes open. It's impossible but I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old so I have to. And convincing the 4 year old to take up naps again isn't working. Last week I let him watch way to much tv while his little brother slept so I could doze off on the couch next to him.

Re: How do you stay awake during the day?

  • Sounds tough!!!! I am not having any problems with this quite yet, but I would just try maybe taking the kids on a walk or having some sugary treats to try to give you a boost?

I have a very active 3 year old. Luckily on the weekend she mostly agrees to to nap with me. When she's resisting I put on the tv and doze next to her on the couch. Weekends I have no issue telling my BF to entertain her while I nap for a while. On work days I unfortunately have to settle for a quick 30 mins in my car.
  • If you figure it out let me know! I feel fine when I wake up but as soon as I get to work I am dead tired. I feel fine in the evenings too. I think its a cruel joke to get people ready for parenting.

  • Oh my gosh - I am dying here. With my first I had a ton of energy, even up until the end. This time around I am exhausted all the time. I seriously am taking more naps now than I did with a newborn.

  • I feel your pain! I have a 2 and a 1 year old. I have so much trouble staying awake. Most of the time I take them to nap with me and we are okay. Sometimes they refuse to nap and I feel like crap all afternoon. :/ here to hoping we all get some much needed rest soon!

  • Last pregnancy I slept in my car on my lunches. I envision the same this one around. It hit me like a ton of bricks at 6 weeks last time so I hope it doesn't happen again this time

  • @snarky14jd I was thinking about that all weekend as I napped multiple times. Glad my building has a non-public parking garage. It's Saturday evening and I'm in bed at 7 45...and I didn't work today.
  • I'm going through this also. I'm so extremely tired and since cutting out caffeine it's even harder. I'm just happy I have no headaches from quitting it.

I'm struggling too. When I work from home, I take a nap on the couch at lunch. I have a 21 month old and has to turn on Mickey Mouse today so I could get a quick nap while she sat with me and watched. I didn't give up caffeine completely and usually break down for a spark in the afternoons.

  • I have a cup of low caffeine green tea in the after noons I am d ead tired otherwise.
  • On the really bad days, I cave and get a small coffee. I'm totally with you guys. If someone finds a solution, I'd love to hear it. The post-lunch exhaustion is the worst. And I don't take a lunch break.
  • Another person who doesn't take a lunch break (I usually work through lunch, but I am entitled to one). I have a little caffeine (25 to 50 mg) around 2 PM. Last time, I'd take a 30 minute nap in my car if I could.

On the weekends, I try to lay down when DD goes down at about 12:30, but I usually have stuff to get done.

I also get into bed these days around 7 and I'm asleep by 8 PM. If I'm lucky, I don't have to get up to pee and DD STTN and I don't wake up until 5:30.

I feel for you ladies with toddlers. It's 7 30 right now and I just finished feeding all my animals/DH just left for work. I should be getting ready but I'm sitting on my couch wondering how I am going to get through the day. We have an event at work that will keep me on my feet awhile this afternoon and has loud music (can't shake this headache!) and a ton of work to do. But tomorrow is finally my doctors appt so that's keeping me moving. I think I may work from home sick tmrw. I'll be so anxious and hey it's kind of the truth anyway, right?
  • I wasn't feeling really any bad exhaustion until just today. I got almost 10 hours of sleep last night and I just want to go back to bed and sleep for 5 more. I hope I can get through my work day from 11-8 today.

  • I have been struggling so much with it. I'm exhausted, nauseous, and irritable. DH is trying to be supportive and failing miserably. I have two kiddos at home too (sometimes three) and I just struggle to be honest. DH works from home so he is here, but trying to get work done.

  • I have been SO exhausted the past two weeks and I'm not even that far along. I work evenings so it's rough. Not really any naps for me. I just can't seemingly wake up any earlier than 11am. My fur babies are the ones suffering from it and I feel horrible I don't have energy to play with them before going off to work for 9 hours. When I come home it's simply take them out for a small walk to do their business, feed them then let them play together before bedtime while I relax on the couch. How do you ladies do it!?
  • I have been up since 4 AM. Pray for me today.

  • I am exhausted but keep waking at night. Then I can't fall back asleep. This is the pits.
  • What are some other safe for pregnancy teas? I really enjoy afternoon tea at work.
  • I've been tired, but this week, week 6, has been awful. I've nearly cried because I was so tired and just wanted to go home and sleep. It's only just after noon and that's how I feel right now. I wake up so many times during the night, most of the time to pee, last night I had a horrible nightmare. That coupled with hormones and I can barely stay awake. What's even scarier is that my job requires extreme attention to detail.
  • When that afternoon bout of exhaustion hits, I force myself to step away from my desk and go for a walk. When I get back to my desk in able to concentrate on work.

I have a fitbit and I scheduled alarms to do off throughout the day to remind me to get up and refill my water. So far that has been working.

I am having to take a nap for 3p minutes around 11:30am but it's rough. I wake up throughout the night to pee already!
  • I have a cup of coffee at about 2 when the slump hits.

  • Right there with ya! I'm so exhausted lately and can't perk myself up at all! Thankfully I work freelance and create my own schedule but I feel so guilty napping all day
