2nd Trimester

pregnancy headaches

I had them like clock work with my 1st starting around the beginning of the 2nd trimester, this time is no different. I started having them about every other day. they aren't migraines, and are on the relatively mild side (i used to have migraines regularly years ago) i was told to only use Tylenol.

Has anyone else ever suffered from this, and find a different solution? i don't want to have to rely on Tylenol almost daily, and i have a 3 year old to run after, I can't lay down all day almost every day. (these headaches are basically there when i wake up and still there when i go to bed at night.)

TIA!

Re: pregnancy headaches

  • I actually started getting migraines daily when I hit my 12th week. I'm now in my 17th week and they finally stopped. I think what really helped was eating small meals frequently. Like every couple of hours. I also eat tons of fruits. My doc also said Tylenol is the only thing I can take so if I really feel bad I take 2 pills 500mg. I never take more than 2 a day. He assured me if I took 2 every day the baby would be fine. I don't take them that frequently but its good know my lil boo will not be negatively affected.

  • I always have headaches and being pregnant they haven't changed and I get them almost daily. But I asked my dr about it because tylenol never worked for me before I got pregnant so I didn't even want to waste my time or money with getting it now that I am pregnant. My dr suggested 3 different vitamins to take daily and she said it should help with them even occuring at all, so far I haven't taken them because I'm having a hard time finding one of them and she said the 3 together is what helps. But they are Magnesium (600mg), Riboflavin (400 mg) and CoQ10 (150 mg twice a day). That is what my dr suggested but I'm sure you can check with your dr as well!
  • If you've given up caffeine due to pregnancy, sometimes that can trigger it too. If you have a small piece of dark chocolate in the morning it can help.
  • I'd suggest a small coffee, Tylenol and a cool rag. I get afternoon headaches this time so I've also been trying unsweetened ice tea with some cranberry juice.
  • I am in the same boat told my dr. and he said taking tylenol everyday could almost make the headaches worse...He prescribed reglan and 1 benadryl when I feel 1 come on said it's completely safe it has helped wonders! I was like you having a constant headaches all day which was miserable and tylenol and caffeine didn't touch...I have 2 other kiddos at home so laying around wasn't an option. ..ask your dr what they suggest for headaches that won't go away there are options GOOD LUCK!
