Major hip pain

I have RA, it has damaged most of my joints especially my hips. I'm used to hip pain but I normally take strong pain killers. But since I'm pregnant I'm not allowed to take it. Yesterday I woke up with major hip pain, to the point that it hurts so much to walk..... I rested most of the day. I sleep with 2 pillows between my legs. But today I feel the same way as yesterday. I have DH help me stretch my hips and as not helped :-/ I'm currently 36 weeks, I'm very small and petite I've gain 22 pounds so far so I'm guessing the weight must have something to do with it.

Any advice on what to do or take?

Maybe relaxing in a pool to feel weightless?

  • Chiropractor maybe?!?

  • When my hip gain gets too bad I generally have a warm bath, it helps soothe it considerably. If you don't have a bath try a long hot shower. Having swapped my chair for a fit ball has deff helped out as well, I used to struggle to sit for longer than 10-30min at a time, now can manage a lot longer. At night in bed is probably where I get my hip pain the worst now, not fun when you wake up in the middle of the night in agony. Best thing I've come up with for that is having body pillows on either side so I can roll over easily and keep extra pillows at hand so I can prop myself up on my back, just have to keep playing with my sleeping positions throughout the night
  • Thinking about taking a warm bath with Epsom salt when my parents come over tonight, I will need help getting out the tub lol hope this helps.... My maternity photoshoot is tomorrow and I hope I don't have to cancel.

I have an autoimmune disease that causes arthritis in my spine and other joints. Have you called your rheumy? My rheumy and obgyn both said I could have prednisone if I had a bad enough flare-up. Maybe that's an option for you? I haven't take it yet but I'm 35+5 and having a lot of pain as well. I may give in if it gets much worse.
  • I saw my Rheumy last month for hip

  • I was having really bad hip pain and sleeping was impossible but I went to my chiropractor and it feels so much better now! My chiropractor also suggested that I walk more frequently so I've been taking an evening walk everyday and that's been helping too.

I'm sure my hip pain is nothing compared to what you are feeling. I got a massage and had them focus on my hips... It was amazing.

Sadly not long term, but might be something to try.
