Lost 100 lbs before pregnancy

I've been googling around and can't really find anything on this, so if figured I'd ask here! Over the last year, I have lost 101 lbs, going from 274 to 173. It has been an amazing change for me, and I feel so good about myself. That is, until riiiiight now. I'm 7w5d, and I've gained 2 lbs. I know that's normal and nothing to be concerned about, but I just feel SO huge. None of my pants fit, and working out is making me nauseous so I haven't really been going to the gym like normal. I was just wonder if anyone else lost a significant amount of weight before getting pregnant, and how you're feeling. I know I will gain weight for the baby and I'm not scared to do so. I just feel so weird in this in between I don't look pregnant but I feel huge!

Re: Lost 100 lbs before pregnancy

  • I lost 100 pounds prior to becoming pregnant as well. I'm 8 weeks with twins and a bit nervous however I'm unsure of what should be gained as I believe everyone and every pregnancy is different.

  • I lost 100lbs too. Its been a few years.. but im still terified of gaining to much weight. Im 8 weeks and ive gained 7lb. Im working out 5 days a week and im counting weight watchers points. All i really like right now is carbs and fruit. Normally i eat low carb..so this is quite a change. But right now i can barely eat any meat.

My pants are getting tighter and feel very bloated. Im going to keep working out and try to do the best i can. Good luck!
  • I've lost 60lb and continued to lose during pregnancy. I fear gaining too much as well, but have really just tried to focus on what my pregnancy needs. Im on bed rest right now so exercise isn't even an option. I'd worry morw about weight gain in 3rd trimester.... that's when it got out of control in my first pregnancy.

I was 238 when I found out I was pregnant in Nov. When I miscarried in Jan I was told to lose weight before I tried again. I am now 176 and hoping to continue to get down to a healthier BMI after this pregnancy.

  • I'm in the same boat, just lost 73lbs and actually I'm still losing a bit. I've been less strict on my nutrition but tried to keep up my exercising. Our bodies will bounce back afterwards, but it's kind of stressful.

I feel exactly the same way about food right now, all I want is carbs and fruit! Everything else sounds absolutely disgusting. That combines with exercise making me nauseous is making me feel like such a slug. Hopefully the second trimester will be better!
  • Just "lurking" here...haven't lost as large amount of weight as you ladies (big kudos!) But over the last 3 years I adopted a pretty healthy lifestyle and gradually shed between 25-30 lbs (depending on what time of the month it is lol).

What has kept me not feeling super fearful of weight gain is making sure the carbs I'm eating right now (which is ALL I'm eating, plus fruit, and soup) are gluten free and whole grain. I try and make sure all my carbs (including flour) are in the form of rice, a nut/seed, or potato (sweet if possible). Now, as I say this I'll also be the first to admit that when Domino's sounds good, I'm getting Domino's...especially because I can order it off my phone for pete's sake! But I opt for the Gluten Free option. I understand some people believe the Gluten Free trend is simply a trend... BUT unless you're eating organic whole wheat grain whatever, it's just wheat flour which is a mechanically seperated unhealthy version of wheat gluten.

Also, berries in the fruit world are healthiest for consumption, I know the sugar is scary and some diets claim avoiding it is important but the nutrients and vitamins that you're getting are super important right now.

    Anyways!...good luck to you ladies!

Good for you! That's amazing!! No real advice here, except that I just bought a pair of maternity pants ahead of time cause they were on sale at old Navy. They look waaaaay better than my regular jeans do on me (think no lines or hips being pinched into a lovely muffin top). While I'm not quite prepared to go all maternity clothing, they're so darn comfortable I might just start wearing them now! Maybe go shop sales and see if you can find something you feel a little better in? Would have never thought that wearing maternity pants would help me hide the pregnancy a little longer!
  • I am not in the same situation, but I just wanted to say good for you! That's amazing. This first trimester weight gain/blump is so awkward, but it will go by fast and soon you will look obviously pregnant and be feeling better. I'm giving myself a break from the gym until the nausea is gone.

Thank you! I'm trying to feel ok with not going to the gym after making it such a huge part of my life, but it makes the nausea so much worse. I'm trying to stay active with walking instead right now. And I can't wait for healthy food to sound good again! Right now the thought of eating a chicken breast and veggies makes me want to throw up...lol

I actually have an Old Navy reward thingy, I think I may go do that too. I am so sick of wearing pants...hah I'm not even trying to hide the pregnancy, I just want to be comfortable!!

  • Lurker here! So congratulations to all of you ladies on the weight loss - that's fantastic. I just wanted to throw in that working out and eating better got way easier again at around 13 weeks for me. Once you see that the blump is becoming bump, you should probably start feeling better. Just keep in mind at all times that you are growing a little human in you :)

  • Would any of you like to share how you did it? I started 21 day fix before I got pregnant but still have a ways to go. I usually try to run 5 days a week but all day sickness sucks right now. I haven't gained any weight yet...I'm 9 weeks and my pants are also tight but its probably mostly bloat. I'm in spired by your losses. Thanks for sharing.

I did it over the course of a year by using myfitnesspal to track my food and exercising regularly. It's really all about the food...there were weeks I didn't exercise at all and still lost weight just by staying within my calories. I gave up fast food and soda, along with most junky food like chips and candy. But I never deprived myself of anything big like carbs, because I want this to be a forever lifestyle. Hopefully after the first trimester I can get back to that!! I miss wanting healthy food and exercising. Everything just makes me so damn sick right now...

I lost like 20 before getting pregnant, then gained 10 right back (combo nausea ect). I did it by eating really low carb. I'm about to go back to it because I feel TERRIBLE! I think I'm starting to feel better but I've still been taking my benedryl at night - I can't afford not to because I have so much going on!

It's really hard to gain weight after losing, so I totally feel you there. Just try your best to stay healthy and in moderation (I know, hard when you're feeling pukey). 2nd tri is so much easier, I promise. :D

  • Thank you for posting this!!!! Because this has been on my mind.

Over 8 years ago I lost 130 lbs. Changing the way that I ate, what I ate, and incorporating exercise is what helped me lose the weight and keep it off. I have never focused on my weight and instead made fitness or clothing size goals. Something about those numbers on a scale does crazy things in my head because I always feel like I should weigh less.

I am 10 weeks, 5 days with my first and quite honestly I was slightly scared when my midwife said a normal weight gain for me would be 25-30lbs. I have maintained my exercise routine so far, as well as healthy eating (when I am not crippled with all day nauseousness) and plan to for the duration. I know that I am growing another human and that I will gain and weight and my clothes will fit differently...and I am truly thankful and blessed to be experiencing this. But there is still that little voice in the back of my head that creeps in and has me feeling blah because I feel bloated, or my pants are tighter, or the new (and cute) little bump I have. Then I remember all that my body is doing.

I too feel weird in this in between phase, where I am not really showing but I feel it. I am in the beginning stages and I really hope that the more the baby grows, the more accepting I will grow too.

I lost about 15 pounds in the three months before becoming pregnant... I wanted to lose enough weight to where when I gained weight I would not be over a certain amount... I am currently 10 weeks and I am still losing weight, I have lost 5 more pounds. Everyone is different though. I have noticed that some pants are still tighter that I remember but I think its because my stomach is expanding. I hope to stay where I am until the second tri-mester because I know it will be better for the baby if I stay lighter. The doctor does not seem to be concerned at all. I am not worried about gaining the weight because I know that if I work hard I will bounce right back. I just got my cholesterol, and thyroid checked and they are both in line for the first time in forever. It gives me peace of mind. I hope you feel better about your situation soon, just know that everyone is different and weight gain may happen more for you in the beginning but maybe the second tri will be slower.
  • I'm lurking...Congratulations on your weight loss! I lost close to 60 lbs a few years ago - and I've gained it mostly all back! Yikes. So I completely understand the fear, as it has become my reality. Pregnancy is a whole different weight gain, though. My doctor gave me a lot of good information regarding weight gain in pregnancy - a little chart that details where the pounds are coming from/uses. I would say, you have to remember how good you feel right now. Remember how awesome it was to push yourself and meet your goals. You can do the exact same thing after you carry the baby to term. I've heard breast feeding also helps! Please don't worry about the scale. Please, please, please! As long as you are eating healthy for you ( and for the baby), staying active and gaining what you should be gaining then you are rocking this. If you would like I can scan the paperwork I received from my Dr - if you think they don't have the same info at yours.
  • So I lost 50lbs on weight watchers and just became lifetime last November. I'm now 11w2d pregnant and have already gained about 12 lbs since I found out at 4 weeks. I'm scared to not eat enough but don't want to go back to my starting weight. Any other suggestions for keeping my weight down at least till lil sweet pea weird more than .25 oz?
  • First off congratulations! That's quite an achievement!

As a STM who gained a ton (~50lbs) with my first, my advice to just be mindful of what you eat. I was at a normal weight to start. Pregnancy is not the time to diet, just don't go crazy with empty calories. You will gain weight in the second and third tri. Walk as much as you can and take care of yourself! This time around I've been much more mindful of my calorie intake and keeping up with a busy 2.5 year old will keep you on your toes! I've gained 3lbs at 12 weeks and I'm happy with that. Just don't believe the weight will fall off of you, because trust me it doesn't! I didn't get close to my pre pregnancy weight until about 12-18 months after with juggling a baby and a full time job.

Good luck and I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
