Items that were worth the splurge?

What baby items did you splurge on that you think are worth it or not worth it?

For me, we purchased a leather recliner... Not sure how I ever nursed my other babies without one!  Definitely worth it for me.

Also, I have a jujube diaper bag that I bought with my third child. It was really expensive for a diaper bag and DH was not so impressed lol. I was tired of cheap diaper bags that didn't hold up or couldn't fit all my my gear.I am still using it this time around and I have to say it was worth every penny.

Just curious to hear of some of your best ( or worst) baby purchases!

Re: Items that were worth the splurge?

  • The baby brezza bottle dryer and sterilizer. I don't use the sterilize option unless I'm using something new but it is AMAZING for drying bottles, nuks, and pump parts. 30 minutes in this thing and everything is BONE dry. It saves my counters from being covered in bottle drying racks!

The joovy room pack n play. This thing is so sturdy, has a ton of (sturdy) storage and you can use the bassinet while the changing table attachment is being used. I use it more than my actual changing table.

Uppababy Cruz stroller. This stroller is lightweight collapses and opens like a dream and has a HUGE storage basket.

I highly recommend all these items! I use each everyday and I don't know what I would do without each one.

So glad we bought our glider and ottoman. I have spent nights sleeping in it and do almost all my nursing in this chair.

Worst purchase: Avent breast pump. It doesn't work!!! I pumped for 20 minutes and got nothing!!! Borrowed my sisters Medela pump and easily got 2oz in 20 minutes. I'm so ticked because it's not like you can return a breast pump. There's $100+ I'll never see again...
  • Jujube BFF diaper bag is awesome.  <3  And the black looks really sharp with our black Britax travel things.

    Mamaroo swing!!

This! I actually bought it on Craigslist so it was half the normal price.

Also, LOVE my Moby wrap. My LO demands to be held 24-7, and the Moby has been a lifesaver. I even went to a friend's baby shower last week with LO in the wrap. It's given me a semblance of a social life!
  • Uppababy vista! Love this stroller- everything else felt like crap when I pushed it around
  • Glider and ottoman. I have one in both lo's rooms and use them daily. I loved my mamaroo for dd. ds is still too little but we'll be using it soon. Haven't done any major outings yet but I love my baby jogger double stroller so far (much better than my bob). I love having multiples of commonly used items so I'm not constantly moving stuff around, washing, etc. I have enough bottles and pump parts to make it through a whole day, a pnp on both levels, bouncy chairs all over, multiple nursing pillows, multiple changing areas, etc. I highly recommend making things convenient for you. I learned this the hard way. When people offer hand me downs of these, take them.

Franco Paul born 6/4/15 at 39 weeks.  Mila Francesca born 10/19/13 at 37 weeks.  Both born via C-Section after 6 years of fertility treatments, disappointments and losses. Love them!!

  • I wish I have seen this comment earlier i just bought avent pump and am about to ise it but it was like 35 $ so i dont know if i will regret it,i definitley bought many clothes that am unable to use [-X

Yes to saying yes to all the hand me down multiples. If I can score one more bouncy seat or rock and play for the bathroom I'll be set (and not have to rush through showers when DH isn't home!).
  • I had stuff from the first baby that was worth it, especially because it's still in working condition! The things we got new back then were a Pack n play(w/ bassinet & changing tbl), travel system, diaper genie(not worth it), jhonny jumper, activity center, plug-in pump, and a $40 diaper bag that is still going strong. We got used things too back then that are good for now such as a couple bouncers (worn but functional) and a swing.

Things actually purchased for this baby (used) were a peanutshell (like a ringsling), a backpack-like carrier, and a glider. I need to buy more bottles, I've got two. But I've only had them used once when i was having a ladies night out so maybe I'll wait until I'm pumping and storing all the time. We've got tons of little blankets, and diapers stored in various places so I can change her anywhere in the house :P

I have heard that Medela is definitely the way to go for pumps. I have a Medela Swing , and I'm on my fourth child- still works like new.

  • My snoogle was great during pregnancy and now it doubles as an awesome breastfeeding pillow! LO pooped on it though so I had to switch to my regular boppy while its in the wash and it's just not the same.
  • My favorites
    Lazy boy rocking chair
    Mamaroo
    Maxi cost car seat
    City select stroller
    Petunia pickle bottom diaper bag

    Cheaper favs
Diaper genie (I love not having to take out the smelly diaper each time!)
Wipe Warmer. Everyone told me this was a waste but anytime we are out and I grab cold wipes out of my bag my daughter hates it she screams and screams but I have zero trouble with that when we use the warmed wipes at home.
  • Uppababy Cruz stroller plus bassinet (separate purchase off craigslist).  I agonized over what stroller to buy and have found this one to be a total dream in every way.
  • I love my bugaboo. Just love it!

I also love the wipes warmer and diaper genie :) my daughter cries from cold wipes too and doesn't mind the warm ones.

I bought a portable moses basket that my baby stays in all day idk what i'd do without it! I'm already worried about what i'd do my my baby outgrows it!

And i bought a ton of clothes that i only put on her to take pictured then change her immedietly because she either gets cold wearing them or scratches herself cause they don't have hand flap

I so want a reclining chair i'm tired of organizing pillows before every feeding or going without the pillows and ending up with a back pain but i just don't have the space :(

Oh and we bought a gigantic crib that's too big for our room and it comes with an attached changing table that's too small and DD keeps hitting the wooden edges and we didn't find a lining that fits it *sighs*
  • The best thing that we purchased was a glider from the land of nod. I sit in it for so many hours in the day I don't know what I would do without it. The couch is not nearly as comfortable as sitting in the glider.

The thing that I wish we hadn't bought is the arms reach cosleeper. I thought we would use it every day but LO hates it. She has slept more in the rock and play and her crib than in the cosleeper.
  • Favorites:
Graco duet soothe swing/vibrate thing- only thing that calms him- he is super colicky...
Beco baby carrier- he requires carrying/being held or he screams
Glider/ottoman- lots of time spent in this
SwaddleMe- won't sleep for long without this.

    Worst
Arms reach co-sleeper- used 3 times. I got no sleep.
  • Definitely the Snuza. SO much peace of mind.
  • 1.) mamaRoo- this thing is the shit and I'm so glad we got it! Easily the best purchase for baby ever
2.) Britax B-Safe travel system (stroller/car seat)- it makes travel as seamless as possible
3.) Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ’n Play Sleeper- a must have for my poor baby with acid reflux (and lucky us it rang up for $10, which was definitely a mistake, but the sales person made our day and gave it to us for that price!!)
4.) Dr. Brown's bottles- not a splurge really but really awesome bottles for when I pump- less gas, throw up and spillage than other bottles
  • My Uppababy stroller with attachable car seat and bassinet are my absolute favorites and has made going out of the house so much easier! Also, my Petunia Picklebottom diaper bag. That fold out changing mat is amazing! Not too impressed with the Mamaroo at this point :( maybe she'll use it later on?

I'm a really wordy lady so I'm just gonna say my biggest splurge will be a really expensive new crib. I wanted it with my first and was stuck with a hand-me down crib. With my second he got stuck with a pack-n-play as a bed. It wasn't even a new one. My mom bought it from a consignment store for my first kid. (It's partly my fault because I had to quit my job and we moved). This is my last baby and I am finally gonna do this.
  • After 5 weeks of very little sleep due to our LO not wanting to sleep in his cradle, pack n play or crib, we broke down and bought a Fisher Price Rock N Play.  I don't know why we didn't buy one before!  I now get 4 or more hours at a time instead of 1-2 at a time!

    1. My Tula baby carrier. It has helped out so much! If LO is fighting a nap, I put him in it and walk around/get things done and he falls right asleep. I also prefer to carry him in it in public rather than use a stroller. We haven't even bought a stroller yet.

    2. Spectra S1 breast pump. I was very hesitant about buying this pump, because it's a hospital grade pump priced at $300. (We rented an Ameda hospital grade pump and I was happy with it until I tested out my Spectra). It is quiet, light weight, and has a built in battery (I've gotten up to 4 pump sessions without plugging it in). It isn't painful at all and I just love love LOVE it.
