What lies have you told?

i was just asking around the office for some Tylenol for this raging headache I have. When a coworker offered me Advil, I told her I'm on medication and that's why I can only take Tylenol. What lies have you told to keep your pregnancy a secret? The juicier the better!

  • Most of my coworkers know what's up because we're close. The ones who I'm not close with I've just told I'm trying to cut back on coffee and I blame the fatigue on it being the end of the school year and I'm just "done". Many are in the same boat so it works lol.

    I don't think I have, actually.

Today was actually my last day at work, so I had to go out for drinks with my collegues for my farewell. I had to lie about not having any alcoholic drinks and said I had diarrhea. Running to the bathroom to constantly pee made my lie seem true. I felt bad, but hell my baby come first.

So far I've only lied about what I'm drinking. Every time I've said a cape codder or beer, just forget to mention that it's either minus the alcohol or just has seltzer in an emptied bottle!

  • My DH and I stopped at a local pub to pick up a pizza to take home. He said he would have a beer and order me a soda while we waited. While there a few coworkers of his noticed us in the corner (guess we didn't hide well enough) they came over and saw my cup and asked what I was drinking. I nervously looked at DH not actually knowing what was in it. He looks up and blurts out sprite and vodka. They laughed and said it looks like just soda. They didn't ask so I'm hoping our poor attempt worked.
  • lol at all your excuses! My husband and I have a house in spain where we come a lot and so everyone in the bars and restaurants know us and we always have wine with our meals and join the owners for a night cap, I've just had to tell them I've gone t total as I've signed up to do a marathon next year...I honestly don't know where it came from?!?! I blame hormones xx
  • We have had a lot of cookouts for graduations, retirements, etc. this time of year in New England. I've been secretly dumping the beer out of the bottle, rinsing it, then refilling with ginger ale!
  • My coworkers tease me about having kids because I've worked there since before I got married 5 yrs ago. If I ever slip up and say that I'm sleepy or nauseous and they'll jokingly say, "are you pregnant??" And I just have to laugh it off. Not lying, exactly, I guess. Lol

After bleeding on the weekend and having a subsequent cryfest, I met up with my mom who commented on how drained I looked. I just said I didn't get enough sleep and then we went to get a coffee.

My other big lie was not drinking at an engagement dinner. Drinks were on the future groom, who is the only one I told I'm pregnant. I told everyone else I had a long day at work and worried alcohol would put me to sleep (the dinner was 2 hours out of town and we had to drive back that night). They thought I was lame for sure but I've never been a big drinker, so they probably figured it was par for the course.

Oh and a close coworker asked if I was pregnant (she knew I was gonna try) but it was via text, so I just ignored it and replied to the next thing she said instead. Ahahaha.
  • I've blamed the MS on traveling and on my Metformin. I have a built in excuse for not drinking with my Wellbutrin. I've claimed migraines when I was just nauseous. (Haven't gotten a real one yet, thank God!) I've claimed to be full so I didn't have to eat food that makes me gag. So glad I only have two more weeks of this!
  • Mine's not too bad...I came down with a cold/sore throat thing a few weeks ago and it really hung on, but was pretty much better. I was at my parents house a few days ago and of course exhausted like I am every day. My mom noticed but I just played the "I'm still sick with this cold card" so I could lay around on her couch while I was there and not have it be noticeable. I'm usually really energetic so that's a very uncharacteristic thing for me to do. She believed me though.

Well I did and they actually thought it was funny. I couldn't think of anything else on the spot. We are just a small group of 4 ladies And we are more like friends than just co workers. :D

  • I had a "girls weekend" with my cousins when I was just 5 weeks along, and I knew there would be drinking... They knew my husband and I have been trying for awhile, so if they saw me not drink they would all know right away. To try to trick them, I filled an empty wine bottle with cran/grape juice with a little ginger ale, and I told them one of my work clients had given me a home-brewed bottle of wine.... They all thought it was too sweet so they didn't drink much, and I had a glass in front of me all night so I thought I had gotten away with it. Turns out they all suspect me and are not believing my lies when I tell them I'm not pregnant!! I'm 7 weeks now, and just not ready to tell anyone yet.
  • At a Sunday night dinner party I told friends I wasn't drinking because I was too hungover from Saturday night :)

I was offered wine at a graduation dinner. I took a small glass of white wine and had my SO slowly dump its contents into his sisters glass throughout the dinner. Luckily it was her graduation and she'd been drinking since 8 am that morning and didn't notice. I also lied about allergies being too awful to attend her ceremony. I felt horrible for missing it but I would have been miserable.
  • On our last FCRV camping trip I mixed OJ and ginger ale in a clear sport bottle and told everyone it was mimosa. Got a massive headache later from using diet ginger ale (aspartame = trigger) and had to ask for Tylenol. Offered Advil of course, just said it tears up my tummy.
  • Haven't really had to lie because I have a big mouth and just tell anyone, even strangers...ok especially strangers.

Someone straight up asked me if I was expecting today...(I am having twins and the bloat is insane already).  I said no quickly, and she said "oh, sorry that dress looks like a maternity dress..."  And I said, "oh it is, I found it when I pulled out my summer clothes and thought, why not?  This is cute!"   And she was like, "oh great idea!"  Hahah...phew!

  • @gassygirl that's me too!! Haha after we had an early appt and heard the heartbeat especially....but I told a handful of my coworkers and we told both our parents within a week of the BFP

I work in a restaurant and all my regulars knew by 8 wks lol

That's just how I am.... but I'm glad I did!! I've gotten so much support!
  • I had surgery the week I got pregnant and didn't know until five days after, so I had had lortabs prescribed. If anyone noticed I was nauseous or extremely tired I just blamed it on the medicine instead even though I had weened off them.
  • It's been tough NOT drinking around our mutual friends (at their house, when we go out to BYO's or bars) so I've been pulling off the "i'm doing a cleanse/detox" ordeal. Since I'm into health & fitness anway, I think it's been a believable lie. 1 more week until we are telling our family (on Father's Day) and are FREE from these lies! Can't wait! LOL ;-)
  • My fiancé and I were supposed to fly to Georgia from LA this weekend for work. I felt SO crappy this week that I made up a huge (fiancé approved) lie that my sinus/lung infection was bordering pnuemonia and that the doctor advised I stay home. Which, in theory he did but my infection had miraculously cleared up a few days before so I just milked it a few more..... why not? Big bed to myself all weekend + netflix + my fiancé getting his own hotel bed for a few nights = win, win, win.
  • Not a lie exactly but I was out of the office for 2ish hours for my first U/S (dr is far from where I work) and I did not volunteer any information about where I was going. Husband told his coworkers he was going with me to a Drs appt so they either suspect or think I have a terminal illness....

  • I was complaining to my SO's sister about how he hadn't cleaned the litter box in two weeks and when she questioned why I didn't do it myself I blamed it the smell making me gag. I don't think she found it very believable since I work as a nursing assistant at a hospital and see/smell gross things on the daily, but she didn't question it! Here's to hoping! We haven't told any of his family members yet but all of mine know and so do my coworkers because I can't work with any of our cancer/chemo receiving patients! We're just at 8w

Had a party today. Made a cocktail for myself and walked around with it. Every time someone asked me what was in it, I offered them a sip. I had a straw in it so it could look like I drank when I clinker glasses. Basically, all my guests drank my entire glass!
  • Had a weekend full of parties (nieces 8th grade graduation, wedding, and a 1st birthday) and had to use a bunch of different excuses. Friday it was the heat, Saturday I just had a club soda with a lime telling all my friends it was a vodka/club, and yesterday I had straight OJ and said it was a mimosa. Trying to be creative until the 12 week mark.
