The antibiotic given depends on the urine culture - specifically based on which bacteria grew out. So others might get different antibiotics based on the urine culture. Macrobid in general is first line for uncomplicated uti. It Will cover the most common bacteria that causes uti. It's pregnancy category b - so pretty safe. It mainly concentrates in the bladder/urine to kill the bacteria. Don't be alarm if your urine is orange while taking it. Complete the whole course even if you feel better to make sure all the bacteria is killed off. (source : I'm a pharmacist) feel better!
No but I did look it up briefly so I knew what you were talking about. It has been a long time since I had one but I think I remember them just giving me Amoxicillin.
WHAT IS NITROFURANTOIN?
Nitrofurantoin is an anti-bacterial that is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by many gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria.
This medication works by interfering with the bacterial metabolism of carbohydrate and also disrupting the formation of the bacterial cell wall.
Three forms are available: a microcrystalline form (Furadantin®), a macrocrystalline form (Macrodantin®), and a sustained release macrocrystalline form used twice daily (Macrobid®). The macrocrystalline form is more slowly absorbed than the microcrystalline version and is useful for patients who have difficulty tolerating this second type of medication.
Yes I had one about 3 weeks ago, forget what they prescribed but it went away super fast! My antibiotics were for 10 days in a low dose.
I had very mild discomfort when I had sex but I actually thought that was because of the pregnancy! Besides that I had no symptoms and only found out because of the samples they took during my intake. I hear it is very common so that's why they check everyone. No need to worry as long as you're taking your antibiotics.
I am taking antibiotics right now. I didn't even know I had it which is strange bc I know all the symptoms of uti since I had them a ton. Buy this time I found out from the lab.
Yes! I just started today. I said to my doc I didn't even know I had a UTI and she said it was so faint and that they are just being cautious since I am prego.
