Craving Pop

soooo im craving pop. Is it okay to have in moderation or completely not recommended?

Re: Craving Pop

  • You mean soda pop right?! haha we call it soda here in Cali. Anyway, one a day is fine, just like one coffee. They recommend limiting your caffeine intake to less than 200 milligrams per day, which is about one 12-ounce cup of coffee. The caffeine amount varies in soda, but I think its all under 100 mg.

  • There is no such thing as pop. It is called soda by us humans...
I don't drink it even when not pregnant, but that's just me. I'm sure a soda here and there will be totally fine. Some women drink it because the carbonation calms their nausea.

  • I'm not big with it either but sprite helps and I'll start calling it soda

I drank one a day my entire pregnancy with DS #1. I've cut back on this pregnancy, but I think one a day is fine. Most canned sodas are under 70 in caffeine and most bottled are under 100. if you look at the nutrition label it will tell you.

Sprite doesn't have any caffeine so you don't have to worry about that if that's what you're drinking :) If does have a ton of sugar so it's not technically good for you BUT it is delicious and I believe fully necessary in moderation :)
  • You might be craving soda (pop) but what your body is actually telling you is that you need more calcium, which you probably won't find in a fizzy can.

Reach for the milk (dairy, soy, almond, whatever floats your boat) instead.

Soda does have its place though, 2 extra strength Tylenols and a regular coke are the ONLY thing that touches my whopper of a headache in the afternoons.
  • My doctor hates soda. The regular has too much sugar and the diet has too many chemicals. It has no real nutritional value. That being said, he's cool with me drinking a soda now and then :)
  • Whatever my body craves I give it to it because I'm not going to settle for something I don't want I can promise you that. A soda a day won't do anything 2 sodas a day won't do anything. Have you a pop ma'am :) coke is my favorite
  • I just feel like I have so many cravings and am scared im not eating good enough for the baby.. Are you the same way?
  • Pop! Yes! Back home it's Pop, where I live now it's all Coke lol! To your topic, I stopped drinking soda a few months back and just this week started having one here and there. The carbonation helps my nausea but I would love to hear suggestions from you all on alternatives!

It's pop here, too. I get funny looks when I say soda!

A soda/pop/coke or two a day isn't going to hurt you or the baby. I do try to go with more natural versions (Izze is amazing) when pregnant, but that's mostly just an excuse to buy the pricier stuff. ;)

  • Soda is fine to drink. If you like root beer, that doesn't have any caffeine to worry about. I usually give in to cravings, because they're rare for me and they go away as soon as I've had whatever it is I'm wanting.
  • I drink some everyday but I have cut back. I also drink flavored sparkling water and that really helps the cravings.
  • I'll have to try that! Thank you :)
  • I've been craving it like crazy! Mostly because my husband has pretty much disallowed it. He doesn't want me to have the corn syrup that's used in regular pop/soda and no artificial sweeteners either. I satisfy my cravings with zevia, it's a calorie free pop/soda but has a natural sweetener so he's OK with it. My biggest problem with it is that there's only about 5 flavors and they're mostly dark (cola, dr. pepper, root bear, etc) and I usually go for lighter fruity flavors. Plus it's pretty expensive so I only drink it for cravings because I'm cheap. Lol.

When I feel like I must have it, I put in about a shot of cola and then fill the rest up with seltzer.
  • Caffeine free and in moderation.
  • Flavored sparkling water (especially lemon) really helps settle the stomach and it tastes slightly sweet but no sugar or sweeteners.
  • I like root beer. I had one or two this weekend because we went to the movies.  Been feeling so gross in the late mornings to early afternoon, drinking something helps my belly aches/nausea.
  • It's pop here too ;)
I'll drink a regular fountain pop once in awhile to help my nausea.

  • Team pop here. I don't even drink it but sometimes I find myself craving it now. I'll take a sip of my DH's and immediately regret it. The sugar is too much and I don't like the carbonation :( Picky picky little baby.

It's pop to me too, and I'm a human!
I've totally been craving Dr Pepper, but I don't have any to drink and I don't buy it...just really want it sometimes!!
The one perinatologist I work with always says anything in moderation is ok. Including lunch meat. Do go ahead a have a sip of pop every now and then!
  • I don't even LIKE soda and I'm craving diet dr. pepper of ALL things.

I don't like soda. I hate dr. pepper.

And the HIGHLIGHT of my day right now, is a diet dr. pepper.

    Pregnancy is WEIRD.
  • Pop for me too call it whatever you want and yes I will have craving for it as well I believe one a day is fine.

  • I drink a diet coke when I need one. Not to often, no more than once a day and usually only on weekends. Other than that it's water or water with Pom juice.
  • Pop has been my downfall since getting preg. I am totally addicted to Ginger ale, Canada Dry is my fav. I drink water all day at work but when I get home I have my pop. Just taste so good now for some reason. :)
