second guessing names!

Hello! I'm 36 weeks and I've had names picked out for this baby for 2 years! I love my girl name (Evelyn Nora) and my boy name was good but now I'm starting to second guess it. I'm actually worried about having a boy because of the name- I'm afraid it won't fit him. Boy name I have picked out is Isaac Douglas. But I'm starting to hear Isaac all over the place and I've always been a go against the flow kinda girl. Douglas is a family name so I definitely want to keep that as a middle name. I was thinking Theodore for a first name and calling him Ted or Teddy but DH isn't sold on it. He likes Isaac and basically asks why I need a different name all the sudden. Idk just starting to second guess whether I want my baby to be Isaac (if it's a boy). What do you guys think? Have any old timey names that will go well with Douglas?

My only advice is that both Theodore and Douglas are long names and personally I think is best to have a long and a short name! But that's just me! I can't think of any names that go with Douglas, I hope you find one that's perfect ... And you can also wait until you see his face to decide! Trust me, it helps! I had no clue of how I was going to name my son until he was born.

  • In 2000, Isaac was 53, it is currently 31 in popularity.
In 2000 Theodore was 312, it is currently 126 in popularity.

Both are strong, classic names, but Theodore is "trending " 2 here as Isaac is more consistent. You can't really fo wrong with either name. Try to take a break from thinking about the name, and revisit it in a week or two and see how you feel then.

  • @wassuphoes where did you find that trending data? It's pretty cool and I wanna look my names up.
  • I did this with DD, started second guessing towards the end but kept the name we picked and I'm so glad I didn't change her name. I still love it now and it fits her so perfectly, Mia Elaina. We are naming this little guy Lucas Ryan, and I've recently started second guessing again but I know for sure this time just to keep his name what we already decided. I think it's just a little scary cause it's permanent.

  • I really like the flow of Isaac Douglas!
  • I just love the name Theodore. Isaac is strong too though.

We are having a girl and kind of have the same problem. Scarlett has been one of my favorite names for a very long time, well before it started trending. Now we are debating if that's what we want to do or find something a bit less popular.

I'd say go with the name you love the most! I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either.

Thanks ladies! I think I'm going to stick with Isaac and have Theodore as a back up in case Isaac doesn't fit. Hopefully DH will just go with it. Lol
  • I wouldn't make any rash decisions about the name while pregnant as far as changing it. Wait until he or she comes out and go from there. You might regret changing your boy name you have loved forever.
  • I keep arguing with husband about Douglas being our sons middle name too. He thinks it sounds dorky but it's my grandpas name and I think it sounds the best with the first name we picked.

  • @CANTW82BMOM So, if you go to SSA's website and search for a name, it will show it's ranking (within the top 1000) for it since 2000. Sorry for the late reply, I was on mobile all of last week and couldn't get notifications.

  • My brother in law's name is Theodore and people call him Ted and also Theo, just as another option.
