2nd Trimester

The 2300

is anybody else just falling short of this? I can't hit this many calories. I just can't. I might get 1300. Some days more but not usually. I don't think it's a huge deal.. But it worries me.

  • I don't track my calories, just eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I find it really easy to get caught up in the numbers and that just causes more anxiety. If you are taking a pre natal and eat a healthy and varied diet then you and baby should be fine.

  • No clue, I haven't counted calories once this pregnancy. Where are you getting that you need 2300 calories? Like PP said, you only need about 300 calories more than you usually get for baby. If you are struggling just to reach 1300, then I'm assuming that you weren't consuming 2000 calories before you got pregnant. I like the suggestion of keeping track of what you eat and showing it to your doctor to get his or her opinion. But honestly, in any case your baby will take what s/he needs and is most likely just fine.

  • So I was a bit of a fitness nerd before I got pregnant, but I have zero certifications on any of this. Take this all with a grain of salt. Basically, from what I understand you want to try and at least eat your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). It's the approximate amount of calories that your body has burned at the end of your day. So when pregnant I guess hypothetically it would be your TDEE plus 300 calories or so?

    I don't actually believe in obsessively counting calories at any time, but if you're really concerned about not eating enough it can't hurt to see about how much your body needs. Then just try to hit as close to that number as you can. Unless your doctor gave you the 2300 number. Then things like protein powder and nuts for snacks are the way to get there.
