edited June 2015 in May 2015 Moms
I ran across this article describing the five main nursing personalities and thought it was interesting.

Which one best describes your baby? Definitely Excited Ineffective over here!

  • Also Excited Ineffective! It's nice to see my situation mentioned and labeled... I just wish the suggestions listed in the article actually helped us.

I can't label my LO, she has almost done them all in 1 occasion or another, when she was first born she was mostly a rester, always falling asleep in mid feeding
  • Agreed with @marsk8. My DS is all of them. Which is extremely frustrating because I never know how our feeding sessions are going to go. Our nighttime ones were perfect last night. This morning he was pulling off and on and hurting me so bad. So frustrating!!!
  • DD is a few of them, too.  It depends on the time of day... Mornings she is easy going and is a rester / gourmet, but by evening she's pretty much an excited ineffective. She gets frustrated if she can't get milk fast enough.

  • Ineffective rester with a penchant for freaking out mid-feed here. I'm going with a new category: Spaz.
  • Mines a barracuda even if I nurse before she shows signs of hunger she roots intensely until she finds the nip and the she goes to town. During he day she only nurses for 8-10 minutes every 3-4 hours. It might be due some to my over active let down. But it work and my I have a happy baby. I have to say it makes nursing in public less stressful knowing she only nurses for 10 minutes.

I've got a barracuda who turns into a gourmet after about 10 minutes. He could be on there FOREVER if I let him.
  • I definitely have a little barracuda. Painful at first no matter how perfect her latch is because she is so aggressive. Feedings last about ten minutes, one side.
  • My LO is a rester! Always taking breaks during feedings.

I've got a rester. At the hospital nurses noticed this and gave me tips like burping and switching sides after she's actually fallen asleep. I do feel like most of my time is spent with her doing nothing but holding my nipple in her mouth :P
