Hair Dye... What did your Dr. say?!?

I've heard a lot of mixed messages about dying your hair when your pregnant... My sister's Dr. said it's not recommended, my friends Dr. said it was fine.. obviously my hairdresser said it wasn't a big deal... Not sure who to believe..

I had balayage done twice when I was pregnant. It's not overall color, but my doctor didn't have a problem with that either, especially if I was having it professionally done at a salon.

I dont dye my hair but Ive heard highlights are OK since the dye does nto touch your scalp.

With DS my doctor told me that there was no reason that I couldn't color/highlight my hair as long as I was in a well ventilated area--however encouraged me to wait till the second trimester. I did color my hair last time I was pregnant twice---once around 15 weeks and again around 38 weeks. If you are sensitive to scents, you may want to consider waiting until the second trimester anyway.

My dr said not to worry about it it is fine. I have read that highlights are best but honestly we are probably exposed to more chemicals pumping gas. I won't be going without gas for the 35 weeks either.

Thanks for reassuring me ladies! I wasn't too concerned until my mother (who doesn't even know I'm pregnant yet) was asking me what I was going to do about it when I did get pregnant and that had me questioning myself (after all Mother knows best right...

I had my hair highlighted yesterday actually... I assumed it would be fine since technically I shouldn't have even known I was pregnant (4 weeks today) and it doesn't touch my scalp per sey...

I'm a hair colorist and each doctor will tell you something different. I tell my guests to do what they feel is right for them. If it's something they are even mildly concerned about, we do highlight because it won't touch the scalp and therefor won't get into the bloodstream. My doctor didn't have any issues with my profession with my first. Go with your gut!

I haven't asked my dr yet - went back to my natural color when decided to get off birth control.. but i did talk to my hair stylist/colorist and she said in her experience diff drs say diff things but she suggests definitely no bleaching. .. again - still haven't asked the dr

My last OB said highlights were okay just to be aware of fumes. I have an appt the first week of July.

Before I found out I was pregnant, I dyed my hair red, hated it, bleached it and dyed it black.. I'm currently rocking awful black hair thats a tad fried.

Naturally blonde. growing this out is going to be "fun"

Once I get the okay from the doctor I plan on fixing my hair..

Girls, its awful... just awful. lol
