Chlorine smell at work

Hi all,

So I work at the front desk of a fitness center. When I came into work this morning the smell of chlorine from the pool was so unbelievably strong. I just figured with my super sensitive pregnancy nose that I was just smelling the pool from down the hall because the door was propped open. A few hours later I heard someone mention that there had been a chlorine leak in the room beneath the pool and that's why the smell was so strong. So that got me worried that I breathed in concentrated chlorine all day. (By this time I had been at work for like 4 hours) I tried calling my doctor for some peace of mind but I'll have to wait until tomorrow as the office was closed. Does anyone else have any knowledge about the effects of chlorine smell on Mom and baby? I would love some reassurance that I'm just being paranoid.

Re: Chlorine smell at work

  • I work at a pool and am a certified pool operator, 99.9% sure you're fine. If you smell the chlorine like that and there's not a leak or spill, it means the pool needs to be backwashed ASAP. It smells strong and gross, but it's harmless.

I'm 17 weeks and still play with the chemicals at my pool. Doctor just told me not to drink the stuff and not to play mad scientist with chemical reactions lol

  • I also work at a pool and I am able to be around everything. I agree if you can smell the chlorine levels may be off or people in the pool urinating can also cause that smell.
