Pumping while breadfeeding full time

hi everyone,

My baby is 3 months and I've just started pumping while still breast feeding full time. I'm only able to get about 2-3 ounces a day so far, so wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same or if the supply increases as you pump more often?

  • Your supply will increase if you continue to keep pumping. Also, let your baby comfort nurse! Are you trying to build a freezer stash?

  • I usually nurse my 13 week old on one side while pumping the other. I do this about 3 times a day and am able to freeze about 8-12 ounces a day. When you pump while nursing, the nursing stimulates your let down, helping you to yield more. Also, pump overnight and in the morning, as this is when supply is greatest.
  • Thanks so much for the tips! I'll definitely try them!
  • And yes I'm trying to build up a stash for weddings this summer.

This definitely helps.  I remember how surprised I was when I pumped while nursing vs. just pumping.  It can be a little awkward with the pump and baby - especially as they get bigger, but totally worth it.  Also, you can take things to help boost your supply.  Fenugreek is supposed to help, as well as flax seed, brewers yeast & mother's milk tea.  I did the fenugreek & tea with my first & it seemed to help a bit when my supply started to drop.
  • Thanks! Mothers milk tea has helped!
