Having the hardest time eating healthy

I am having the hardest time eating healthy! Chick-fil-a calls my name every day, and even if I have a house filled with fruits, veggies and healthy protiens I always seem to make special trips for cookies, sweet tea, ect. And this is coming from a pre-pregnancy healthy freak. Anyone else dealing with this? Usually I can't even look at sugary, fatty foods without getting nauseous but now it seems that at least 80% of my diet is processed foods. Ugh :-< motivation desperately needed! The weight is adding up..

Re: Having the hardest time eating healthy

  • Im in that same boat. I have so much veggies in the house but i end up eating cookies. My body just keeps asking for it too and i just dont know what to do anymore.

  • @prhernandez09 it's such a struggle! It doesn't matter how hard I try (like not buying the stuff when I'm at the grocery store) I always end up making special trips! Sometimes more than once a day. The lack of self-control is real.
  • I hear you! The issue is, the more sugar and processed food you eat, the more you crave it - viscous cycle! I just started trying to eat clean too because I have been giving in to cravings too often and my GD had one number slightly elevated so I want to do everything in my power to prevent myself from developing GD. It sucks though, all I want is carbs and fatty sugary foods!! ARGHHHHH BUT on a side note, after cleaning up my act ever so briefly, today was the first appointment since my early pregnancy puke days that I had not gained any weight! :)
  • Yeah I'm struggling too. And I hate taking my prenatal so I have to get my self together.

  • I just scarfed down a hot dog and half a tube of Pringles. In no way shape or form should I give advice on this! I know how you feel!
  • This is my struggle everyday! Especially now that it's getting hot out I just want smoothies and Popsicles and ice cream all day long. I'm having mini panic attacks about it, but I'm also trying not to beat myself up about it too much either. I guess one day at a time?! Agh.
  • I'm not going to claim to be a health food guru or anything, but I recently discovered frozen grapes. Has been a life saver when I'm craving ice cream. Now if I could just find a crunchy cheeto alternative...

Frozen grapes are great! Try Pirates Booty for your Cheeto craving...much healthier and yummy!
  • It's not that you can't have any, just try to only have a serving. Instead of taking the whole bag of chips to the couch, take some on a plate. I find I'm often too lazy to go get a second helping. I also find that having some junk food that you might not be necessarily craving in the house helps too. My mil is constantly buying cupcakes and whatnot that whenever I'm at the store and want to pick up that cheesecake, I don't because there's enough junk food at the house. Or if I really want rice pudding, she'll eat it before I get a chance to and it just makes me angry so I've given up. Thankfully, she doesn't seem to eat the fruits I bring in the house. I know it's easier said than done, but I'm still trying. It's a daily struggle.
  • I hear you!!! I am trying really hard to stick with my "healthy" diet. I did pretty good the first week, but now it's getting harder and harder not to eat the "bad" food. But, I know eating healthy is not only good for my health, but my baby's health. Also, I want to get on the right track for when I start to breast feed. The only advice I have is you need to have self control. Definitely easier said than done, but you can do it. I find eating every 2 hours (3 meals and 3-4 snacks per day) really helps with the hunger. But make sure you are eating healthy snacks. For example, I will have some carrots and hummus and some grapes as a snack. Or if I really am craving carbs I will have one of those peanut butter cracker packs (just one pack though) and it really helps tide me over until my next snack. I totally look forward to snack time lol!
  • I'm struggling too, mainly with sweets. Chocolate, junior mints, etc. I eat okay otherwise but I'm way behind on fruits/veggies. I usually adore fast food but I find it disgusting while pregnant (except for Burger King weirdly) so at least I'm not going crazy with that currently.
  • I am trying to eat healthier, but it doesn't happen all the time. But now as I sit here eating my salad and yogurt for lunch, now I'm craving Chick fil a! And a chocolate cupcake, they're my biggest weakness!

Oh man. I don't eat healthy to begin with but now I crave Swedish berries.

I'll eat a huge container of raspberries but it doesn't satisfy me at all...

I think that I may have low blood sugar. I could have gone for another round of the glucose drink at my gestational diabetes test.
  • I dont eat too healthy to begin with but now it's worse.. I have always eaten lots of fruits and drank lots of water though and that hasn't changed. I do try to eat healthy but I do give into the soda and sweet stuff, or McDonald's and chicken finger dinners :(( but it's not like it's all new now because of the pregnancy just a lot worse, I haven't gained crazy amount of weight though, 27 pounds and I'm at 31 weeks 5 days. I do keep up with milk and orange juice too
  • Build those treats into your diet if you can like a homemade salad and chick fil a. At least you're still getting the good stuff in your diet that way.

  • Today I had Chick-fil-a and a cookie from Great Amerixan Cookies. I totally understand. I have been trying to have a smoothie everyday made with cucumber, spinach, kale, apple, and strawberry. But I still want my ice cream before bed. I am hoping I will be too preoccupied with a newborn that I won't have time to eat sweets lol.
  • Seriously! I'm an extreme health nut when not pregnant but it takes a lot more discipline when I am! Making ice cream with canned coconut milk frozen berries an egg a little salt and maple syrup tastes amazing and still in a heathy category :) this pregnancy I work on making myself eat healthy no matter what then eat crap if I still have room. I always have precooked things I like so I know I have no excuse. Then I tell myself if I eat this I can have whatever else I'm craving (most times I'm to full and skip the crap) I know I have some serious workouts in my future for all the junk I've ingested!

I so get it. Before this pregnancy I'd probably eaten ice cream twice in two years and maybe under 10 pastries in the last year. Now I'm ALL about carby sweets. I eat a TON of fruit which probably is a lot of sugar in itself but then I'm still not satisfied until I have a pastry or some ice cream. I have been buying Edy's no sugar added (3g sugar per serving) slow churned (1/2 fat) ice cream though and its DELICIOUS - you'd never know it wasn't regular ice cream. plus it comes in good flavors like triple chocolate and fudge tracks. Give that a try if you're craving ice cream because although its not "healthy" it's better than the regular stuff. Hang in there mama... You're not alone.

Also, for anyone struggling - check out the book, "The Digest Diet" it is not low calorie but focused on clean eating and eating foods that fight fat. I brought it to my Dr's and asked her if she had any issue with me following it while pregnant and she was totally fine with it since she said it was more just healthy eating than it was actually dieting. Edit to add: obviously talk to your own Dr before doing anything, but mine was a-okay with it :)
  • For the ice cream fiends - try freezing slices of banana... Blend up the frozen banana with a splash of milk and it really tastes like ice cream....
  • I was doing great for the first two trimesters, but it seems like the DAY that I hit the third trimester all I can think of is ice cream and junk food.  Prior to that I had no cravings other than milk.
  • I just keep telling myself the more junk I eat comes with more weight gain...I treat myself once or twice a week. I dont want all this unnecessary weight to lose once the baby comes. I really want to fit back into my clothes as soon as possible.
  • Ugh! Yes yes yes! This is me too!
I have healthy stuff in my house too, to avoid the binge eat of unhealthy stuff but once I get something I my mind that's it!!! No talking me out of it. I get in my car and go...
No advice for you! It is what it is.
enjoying it now because once the baby comes I Crack down big time.
    good luck!!!
  • I have eaten ice cream every night for the last 4 weeks. I wish I had guidance. I have a huge sweet tooth this time around!
