Take this job and shove it...

OK so not really but it's what I want to day right about now. Anyone else want to vent about poor work conditions?

I am a 911 communications center supervisor. We work 12 hr shifts rotating every 6 weeks between day shift and night shift. I'm also currently 31 weeks today (yay)!!! Well for the majority of this pregnancy I have not had a partner at work (small agency) which means I have to call in an officer off the road to come and let me go potty every time the need arises. I hate doing this and in turn I know I'm not drinking enough water to keep me from getting dehydrated. Well last night we were so busy I literally only got to go to the bathroom twice in 12 hours. Not good. I so wish I could take the rest of this pregnancy off to just relax but that's not an option either since dh was laid off last month. I'm just grumpy I guess.

Re: Take this job and shove it...

  • I've basically felt like saying this every day since I announced my pregnancy. My boss has been so petrified that I am going to leave that she hired TWO new employees who split 75% of my responsibilities. So where as I had no plans to leave before, now I can't imagine staying. Miserable.

  • Sorry your work life is so hectic! I can understand why you need to vent!

  • I just got sent home second day on a row from my job I bottom out my blood pressure, seeing black spots whole nine yards. I'm a floor nurse on a cardiology unit. The nurse on the phone from my Dr office told me to take a break eat protein and drink. I was like take a break? It's 830 I have a stat enema to do, 5 other patients need morning meds and another one is calling in for pain medication. How on earth am
I supposed to just sit in the back eat my protein and drink, feel better and go back to work. I almost want them to call me out of work and I really wanted to work until the end.

  • I know this is a really ridiculous thing to complain about, but I am so BORED! I work at a university, and the students are gone for the summer, so it slows way down for our office. Daily, I have about 1-2 hours of actual work, sometimes with a meeting thrown in. Meanwhile, DH actually has super long work days this week due to sports camps (he's an athletic trainer at a high school) and is actually taking DS to work with him in the afternoons so that we don't have to pay a babysitter for the entire day. It just feels so stupid to be sitting here wasting time online when I would so much rather be home with DS.

I'm having a similar issue at my job. I don't have to have anyone cover for me each time I need to go, but I do get impacted on my performance metrics each time I leave my desk. Because of this I'm not drinking NEARLY the amount of water I'm supposed to be, in an effort to meet my schedule adherence. It's a dang mess. Good luck :)

You can't take a bathroom break - WTF? That's incredible. Sounds like third world sweatshop conditions!!
  • Yep. They want us to utilize our breaks/lunch for this. Which I also do. And nobody has issues with doing so until you get pregnant and have a baby sitting on your constantly full bladder lol.
  • This is too frustrating! You are grown women and should be allowed to break whenever needed. You can't confront your boss about this issue? Or HR? This just seems wrong.
  • My boss is actually really wonderful about my needs; I've been very lucky. She's tried to spread my breaks out into 5 minute segments but it hasn't been enough. There's nothing else she can do for me. Now it's in the company's hands. I'm hoping to go out on leave early (wouldn't cut into my mat leave) to avoid compromising my job.
  • @jeshodge: Your situation is crazy though! Obviously it's much more important for you to be at your desk than it is for me to be at mine (I don't have people relying on me like that) but goodness..twice in twelve hours?
  • I think my boss is purposely making my last 2 weeks as stressful as possible. They want me to make a training manual for my sub. Uhhh that's my supervisor's job. That's why she gets paid more. And I'm getting calls EVERYDAY! I've worked for this company for almost 3 years and rarely have had any contact with the office unless it was to request time off. I will say though that they've let me slip with the dress code bc I can't comfortably wear pants or scrubs anymore. It irritates my belly! And I'm now allowed to wear slip ons bc my feet swell in my regular tennis shoes.
  • I'm with the pp who is bored! Summer is slower and and I wish my days were filled so they went by quicker. When I am busy Im traveling locally and that is getting more and more challenging the bigger this belly gets!
