Want to claw my eyes out right now

I'm allergic to cats and we have two small kittens. I usually take Claritin and all is ok but now that I'm pregnant and can't take it, I'm dying!!
Literally want to claw my eyes out right now with how itchy they are!

Fyi I know Claritan (as long as it's not Claritan D) is on the "ok" list, but my doctor's pregnancy packet suggested to avoid all medications in first tri unless absolutely necessary.

Re: Want to claw my eyes out right now

  • My mom was like that. She used cold compresses on her eyes to help.

  • I take claritin everyday, dr ok'd it.
  • I take zyrtec every day. I consider it absolutely necessary to control my allergies.
  • My allergies are a nuisance but not dangerous or anything. Figured I can suffer threw a few sneezing fits a day and moments where my eyes are killing me. The cool compress is a really good idea- thanks:)
I forgot my mom used to do that for me as a kid.

I'm trying to not take anything but prenatals. My husband came home the other day with the worst headache and insisted on suffering through it since I would as well.

  • I took Claritin last time I was pregnant - I have terrible allergies. If you're not willing to take Claritin, try taking Benedryl at night. It's very low risk and actually recommended to help with insomnia as early as first tri. Or you could always try eye drops... much lower absorption.

That said, I do try to limit what I take during pregnancy as well, so I get it.

I've stopped my daily Zyrtec and I am feeling the same way except it is my sinuses and junk draining in the back of my throat.  I am trying to get past the first tri, then we'll see.  But ugh!

  • I have ridiculous allergies - itchy, swollen, watery eyes, and so much nose itching and flaking I could lead a sleigh through a snowstorm. Trying not to take claritin (which in itself is a sub for Allegra, can't take that one) but it's a real struggle. I'm sort of concerned my uncontrolled allergies are going to tip off my office... Bleh. I feel your pain.
