It depends on the person. I want to be comfortable and I'm also planning on a longer stay, so I probably packed more then most people would. My SIL, all she brought was a baby home outfit and some pads and stuff like that, everything fit into a small purse. But for me, I'm bringing a small under the seat roller bag and a duffel bag So it just depends on how you think you feel and what you want to bring. My suggestion to you is to look up lists and see what's in your pack and the things that are repeated or the things that you feel are most important, keep in the bag and other then that, don't pack it.
Do you mean for the baby or in general? Literally need the going home outfit and a swaddling blanket if you want (I prefer the aden & anais over the hospital ones).
You don't need anything for baby other than any outfits or blankets you want. The hospital supplies everything else.

Our hospital said to only bring a take home outfit, a blanket if you want one for the ride home, and pacifiers if you have a preference for a certain brand.

I have a suitcase packed for me and baby. Our "lovely" hospital charges for EVERYTHING that we use (diapers, wipes, maxi pads, etc...definitely check to see what your hospital will and won't charge) so I have a suitcase full of the things already mentioned for baby along with a tiny bit of formula while I am still getting into the groove of lactating. I am bringing clothes for every day that we are there because I'm so excited to dress my little guy and I feel that he will be too cold...that's just me though. Skin to skin is easier with just a blanket you don't have to constantly keep on putting clothes on and off. Do what you feel is enough. Everyone is different with what they want.
I didn't even bring a diaper bag to the hospital with me. Hospital supplies everything (or mine does at least). Just brought my hospital bag which only had the coming home outfit for baby. The rest was for me.
