2nd Trimester

3 months pregnant and huge

Hi ladies
I'm pregnant with my 2nd baby. I'm 12 weeks but seriously look nearly as big as I did at 5 months with my first. I'm big high up, below the ribs in the middle section. Does anyone else have this?

  • I'm wondering about my size also. I have experience working with pregnant women so I know most get the "bump" around 5 months. I can't believe that I popped around 3.5 months even though I only showed a weight gain of three whole pounds. Now at 19 weeks people comment how big I am for my progress. I can hold my belly and have gained 9lbs total for the pregnancy. Could I be that bloated? I don't care so much about my vanity I just want everything to be healthy. First baby, life is an adventure...
  • I felt so bloated at week 11 that I had to stop wearing my regular pants and skirts. I had only gained about 2 pounds then. It really varies. Today, I don't feel as bloated (at 18 weeks), but who knows about tomorrow? I've gained 10 pounds so far and I do have a bump now. Some days, my bump is more obvious to people. I think it depends on what I'm wearing too.

I'm about 3.5-4 months and I've been showing for a few weeks now! A few of my friends keep teasing that at the gender ultrasound they will find 2 rather than just one. Its my first pregnancy and when my mom had her first, my older sister, she didn't show till 5.5 months! So having been showing for almost a month now seems crazy to me! And the funnier part about it is I keep bouncing between 3-8 lbs. LESS than I was when I found out. I'm in second trimester and still haven't really gained any weight but my belly sure tells people otherwise its weird :/
  • Sunrise, maybe she's paying privately for a gender ultrasound. I'm doing just that at 16 weeks as I know this isn't the purpose at all of the 20 week anomaly scan. Besides, correcting her on a term totally unrelated to the original post about being big at 3 months is unnecessary. As is bringing up a whole debate about when gender is ultimately decided.

In regards to the original post, I am just over 3 months with 2nd baby and I am huge. Was this size at 6 months first time around. Think our muscles are just weaker and as previous replies stated our bodies remember where organs were pushed to etc.

Gender ultrasound??? I assume you are refferring to the 20 week anatomy scan?? Sorry to burst your bubble but that is NOT what that scan is for. It is to find out if your baby is growing properly, baby has all organs. Nothing wrong with organs, or there are no indications of abnormalties with you LO (personal experience: it sucks when they tell you there are three markers for downs syndrome and you are rushed to get into Level 2 ultrasound with Maternal Fetal specialist- thankfully all is ok with DD). Finding out the SEX of the baby is an added bonus, if baby cooperates, but not the reason for the ultrasound. Gender will not be known until your child is old enough to say what his/her gender is.

....She clearly said it was a joke.

  • I don't get the argument. They are advertised and sold as "gender scans", and are synonymous with the term "sexing scan". She didn't use improper terminology. Just picked the most common term out of the two.
If it is the 20 week ultrasound then I agree it should have been referred to as an anomaly scan, but there's no point in nit picking, we all know what she meant
  • Same here. This is my second baby and I am about 13 weeks and look 5 months. Ppl are constantly asking if I'm further along than I thought. But nope it's just my body remembering pregnancy per my OB. And I've gained 2 pounds so far.

It's not nit-picking.  There is a difference between sex and gender; one is anatomical and the other is social.  There is at least one person on these boards who has a transgender SO, and wile I can't speak for her or her partner, it is important to understand the gender vs. sex distinction and use the appropriate terminology.  Arguing and refusing to use the correct terminology after being corrected is just flat-out insensitive.
