C Section Incision

Im 2 weeks post partum and my c section incision is still very painful. I received an internal stitch. How long until the pain subsided for you? And how did your doctor recommend you keep it clean? My doctor said to just let soapy water fall on it in the shower or dab with a face cloth with hot water and dry. But I don't think it's doing anything.

Re: C Section Incision

  • I am on my second c section and they were very different from each other. My first one, which was an emergency c section took a really long time to heal. This one had much less pain and irritation I am two weeks out and pain free for the most part. I do have one tender area along the Incision. My doctor informed me that the pain being so much less was due to not having gone through labor first. In terms of cleaning, I take a wash rag with a little anti bacterial body wash and gently dab the area and then rinse. Make sure to watch your pain level and if you think something is wrong get it checked out by your doctor. My first c section got infected and the healing process for that really stinks!!!

  • The nurses at the hospital told me to just let the soapy water run down over it, also. I did this until my 2 week check up. That's when my ob said I could bathe normally, and the adhesive/glue would either come off on its own, or I could 'pick it off'. The pain completed went away by the 2week mark as well. Apparently, I had a great recovery. My best friend said her incision was painful for up to 6 wks. Good luck to you

My first c-section incision didn't hurt so bad and I was in labor for nearly 12 hours. My insides sure as hell hurt though. My second was the same though my insides hurt less. And the doctor just said to let the soapy water run over it. This time it was a new doctor and a new hospital... I was in so much pain and my incision hurt like the dickens! The dr said let soapy water run over it and pat dry. After 2 weeks she said I could gently wash it with soap and pat dry. I will say 5 weeks PP I'm still in pain because I got sick at 3 weeks after it stopped hurting and have been coughing up a bunch of crap. This has been the worse c-section ever. I miss my old dr.
  • My first one took about 4 weeks to heal good and quit hurting. My second one is so much better and 2 w pp and I'm as good as new. I get one spot at the very end of the scar that hurts if i move a certain way but if your pain is pretty severe Id go in! Better safe than sorry

I went to my OB today and turns out my incision opened up a bit and I might have a mild infection in my uterus :/
  • Oh no please take good care!! I'm 6 weeks pp tomorrow and I've felt great until today.. For some reason it's really sore. Went to dr for 6 week apt and she said it's still normal to be sore every once in a while ...and to call if I have any bleeding or run a temp.
