I am at 14w3d and I am already pretty prepared. We painted the nursery as soon as we started trying (a light yellow color so it could be for either gender or just a plain bedroom rather than a nursery) because I knew I didn't want to have to have it painted while pregnant and the room needed a fresh coat anyways. (We purchased our home 2 1/2 years ago and it was the only room with white walls, and I hate white walls!) I have also been hoarding baby clothes and items since we started trying so I could hit up sales (we started trying in November so we had black Friday & Christmas sales so I found lots of great deals on your baby basics) and since we had decided when we talked about having a baby that neither of us want to find out the gender of our first before birth it was easy to buy all gender neutral stuff. I have most of the basic clothes I need for the first 12mo and then we will purchase gender specific clothes after the baby arrives. So far we have already purchased the crib bedding set, the crib with conversion kits & dresser/changer, a pack and play, bounce seat, and several other items. I have also started washing, folding, and organizing the clothes how I want them... Is anyone else preparing like this so early? I don't want to be trying to take care of everything when I am 8 or 9 mo pregnant, plus the last two months of my pregnancy are going to be busy enough with harvest, which I will hopefully still be able to participate in so I wouldn't have much to prepare then either!
Re: When do you prepare?
So save some stuff for the end!
So to answer your question. 20 weeks is a good time to start. But you've already started so you're good!

MIL is generously buying us the crib, changing table, dresser and glider so I have to wait until she wants to go shopping to get those (they are all picked out)!
My SIL has a two year old girl and a 6 month old boy and is anxiously awaiting news of our babies' sex so that she can send us all the sex-specific clothing she has saved. She has crazy good taste and is so generous to be giving us all the clothing she saved. As soon as she found out I was pregnant a giant box arrived on my door with the Madela pump, post-partum waist slimming belts, and a wardrobe of Pea in the Pod, Rosie Pope and Motherhood maternity clothes.
We want everything ready by 28 weeks at the latest since I'm a high-risk mama that will likely need to be induced weeks early. Even my OB mentioned during yesterday's appointment that in my case being prepared a little early would be a smart move
Are plan from here on out is to buy a case of diapers, some clothing, and other little things each month or while we happen to be out shopping together. We have very small but generous families but I do not want them buying big things for a shower...I have guilt issues with large gifts even if it is for the baby and not me.
I think the fact that I quit work at 12w due to my HG and finding out I am high-risk has made me a little baby-preparing crazy. It's hard to just wait and slow things down.
The struggle is real.
But it's so fun to get ready for your first!
We have started looking for furniture we like but haven't made any big purchases yet. We figured we would wait a couple more months.
I hope I get that nesting urge soon though because my house is currently a mess!! I've been way to exhausted to do anything!!
