I'm much more thirsty than I used to be, do I have gestational diabetes?

I told someone that I was thirsty and peeing more than I used to and they mentioned I might have gestational diabetes. My aunt had it when she was pregnant so I have a family history. I am at the upper end of the healthy bmi range, I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I have been trying to limit sugar except in fruit etc. Are other people suddenly more thirsty or is this something I should be worried about?

I am also more thirty and peeing more often. Never thought g. diabetes might be the reason why. I have had 2 healthy pregnancies and with each I peed a lot....not so thirty though.

Common first trimester symptoms, your placenta isn't formed enough to be giving you trouble yet.

Those are totally normal pregnancy symptoms. With DD I was SOOOOOO thirsty but never had GD.

I think it's too soon for gestational diabetes -- isn't that a later thing ?

Thirst is normal, you have increased blood volume so you have to drink more to stay hydrated. Peeing more often is normal as well, middle of the night potty breaks will become your new normal!

i am definitely more thirsty and peeing more.  as others said this is common.  however, if you are concerned about anything related to your pregnancy, you should consult your doctor.  a question like "do i have gestational diabetes?" is not something anyone here is able to answer.  good luck! :-)

I'm about 6 weeks and I'm finding I have terrible dry mouth. Must just be a symptom with all of the changing hormones.

It's pretty early for GD - I'm as thirsty as I was when I was BFing and drinking a gallon of water a day. It's completely normal - if you're concerned, mention it to your doctor.

Also, I'm not sure if GD is really hereditary... so I wouldn't be too concerned. My mom had HELPP, a very severe form of GD, and my OB was not concerned at all last time.
