Eye Contact

I read that between 6-8 weeks babies should be smiling socially (making eye contact, smiling back). My LO will be 7 weeks old Thursday and she smiles very frequently, but I don't know that I would say she has smiled socially. She looks around a lot even when I am trying to get her attention. Just wondered if other babies were doing this! Thanks!

Re: Eye Contact

  • Try laying her down on her back. Hover your face over hers where she has no choice but to make eye contact. My son  makes eye contact a lot when feeding and throughout the day but laying him down is the best way to get eye contact for me. He started smiling about 2 weeks ago.

  • There may be a sweet spot for when you get lots of eye contact...I get more earlier in the day when he wakes up from sleep and from naps. But your LO may be working on taking in the surroundings, too.
  • I get best eye contact when he is on the changing table

  • My LO is almost 7 weeks and is doing the same thing. He will smile and briefly make eye contact, but seems like he looks past me more. I will talk to him and try and get his attention, but it's tough.
