I bet it sounds beautiful when pronounced correctly, but who knows if they will ever have someone pronounce it right. My name is Leigh and the success rate of someone pronouncing it correctly is about 30/70 - with 70% being not correctly. And Leigh is not that hard...
Leigh = Lee... but my mom had to go with the fancy spelling.. hahaha
If you like, that's what's important. But LO might have to deal with consant correcting for spelling and pronunciation just to weigh the pros and cons. I have friends with unique names and they love it because they are a bit different from everyone else.
People get Leigh wrong?! I love that spelling and is one of my girl middle name choices. And it's fairly common here. Maybe it's a regional thing?
Oh my gosh, yes you have no idea!! The most popular mispronunciations are: "Lee-ah" / ""Lay" / "Lay-ah" / and my favorite "League". Yes someone said "League?" - I was tempted to ask the person if they were educated in the US or at all, because the "g" is silent...LOL
If you live in the US, then I wouldn't do it. It might be a gorgeous name, but no one will ever pronounce it correctly. I personally have no idea how to pronounce it at all.
However - he's your baby! You get to name him what you want! Good luck!
When naming a child just remember they will eventually have to learn how to write it and spell it. Wish you could insert a vocal clip so we could hear what it sounds like but it looks like it's flows nicely dunno

The name you chose is a very suave name though...
A gf of mine is Leighanne and at a dance nationals one year the announcer called her "Leg-Annie" which clearly I still call her twelve years later!

If you are in the states then I don't think it's good idea. The initials alone aren't good. ASS.
If you're in the states please rethink the name!! Maybe you could even give him a normal everyday middle name so when he gets older he could choose to use that if he wants.
Maybe keep Arae and swap out middle name for something a little easier to say? Just my thought, but as other ladies said its your baby you get to name him whatever you like!

Well most people won't know the middle name, I have a crazy Greek middle name and haven't had to discuss it most of my life. With that being said, how do you pronounce even the first name? My first name has 1 consonant and 3 syllables and constantly gets butchered, like 99%. If I see someone struggling to say a name (dr office, teacher, etc) then I know it's mine

I honestly think it's a bit selfish when people give their kids names like that. I'm sure it's beautiful and might even be deeply meaningful, but you are setting them up for a life of embarrassment because no one can pronounce it correctly and they will have to spell it for EVERYONE that ever needs to write it down. I'm not a fan of boring conventional names either, but you can find a name that's interesting but also decipherable.
I disagree on principle. I think that if the name reflects the kid's heritage and is meaningful to his family you absolutely shouldn't rule it out bc Americans can't pronounce it right off. Don't cater to the lowest common denominator.
"Ah-ray Sin-say" will be your standard first guess and your little boy would either give me a thumbs up or will have learned a quick and easy trick to help me remember correctly. Nbd.

Just this. My name was extraordinarily difficult to pronounce when you would add my first name to my maiden name. BUT, the initials are definitely something to strongly consider!
If I were to be a boy, my mother had actually thought about naming me Adam Samuel for a split second only to realize that since my maiden name started with an S that it would be a terrible idea. Also as a sidenote, my father's initials were legitimately BS.
I have never thought about initials... so good to know. My husband's full name is 21 letters long so it's all about short names for us. We even shortened my daughter's last name so she wouldn't have the same problems my husband had growing up. I struggled with the idea of having a different last name than her but now I'm glad we did it. It's just the last 5 letters of our 13 letter last name now, which we use too just not on paper. Some people (including kids) can be so mean. I literally have to tell people over the phone to bear with me, it's a long one... when I have to spell my last name. Lol So, you really are a Bostonian- Sam Adams @bostonbaby1
Here's the difficult reality. If it's from your culture or your husband's culture, then it's great! I have no reference level for that. It's your culture and you need to manage your relationship with it the way you want. And I respect that. It's like how our kid will have a Chinese middle name because my husband is Chinese. And i can't argue with that in any way.
But if you're both culturally not related to names like this... it just looks... Ugh. I'm trying to find a nice word for it. It's like two suburban soccer parents in a $500000 house naming their kid Bodhi. It's sort of...

Hm. Guys? Sugar coating here?
Hey... One of my closest friend's sons is named Bodhi... But, she's not a soccer mom so I guess that's okay?
