WTF to my ex-husband who is suing me for child support because he's pissed I'm re-married. (sigh) And, for the record, he has a perfectly solid upper-middle class income so it's not like he is truly in need or our son is living a different standard of life at each house.

Hi @NB817, my ex and I have joint 50-50 custody. In the state of Nevada, the parent with lesser income, even in a joint custody situation, can file for child support. It's a different formula than when one parent has full custody and the other parent pays them (so the percentage of your income is different that you have to pay).

I make a bit more than than my ex and he's activating his right to get a percentage of that difference just to spite me, I know it.

Again, he has a solid upper-middle class income and my son lives in a lovely home he owns with his financee not too far from where we live too. If he really was in a tough financial situation, I may view this differently, but he's not.

Here's the best part: I got his motion for child support last week on my egg retrieval day. I just sat at my kitchen table and cried. We have spent thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars on this (none of which matters to the court), and now I have to pay him too. My current DH is so freaking pissed.

There is so much bs there, I'm so sorry. Is there a way to reduce your income? That is ridiculous that he can get some of your income despite being financially ok. Not to mention he's wasting the time of the people that could be getting funds to those who actually need it.

Why is he upset you're married, if he is engaged? Wtf!?

@fuzzbumble , he's been with his girlfriend for three years. Longer than I've been with my husband, actually. I'm not sure what his issue is, but he has always been a problem.

When my now husband and I got engaged, the first thing my ex said was that I got our son "a new dad". And he was not being nice about it. Oh, and he then told me he was going to report suspected child abuse to CPS about my (then) fiancee, though he never did because it was obviously false.

I can't reduce my income because I am salaried and working successfully in my profession at a company I've been at for 8 years. I would have to leave and work a lesser position. Even then, he could claim I am "underemployed" to avoid paying child support.

The only option is some day if I decide to be a SAHM with a future little one, though I'm not sure that's right for me. The court does not ding women for that.

This whole thing is straight up, 100% bs.

Omg that's such a ridiculous, crappy situation @CTinNV! I'm sorry you're stuck dealing with all that and it's obviously because he's just being spiteful.
