I woke up this morning, and went to pee at around 10 am.. I saw blood and freaked. I am already high risk due to genetic issues. Well I was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage and a hematoma behind my placenta. The baby is okay, I saw his/her heart beating and fluttering away and moving, so I felt better, but when I got home I did some extra reasearch into hematoma. I was a medical assistant but I was not familiar with this in pregnancy.. as relieved as I seemed the baby was okay, I quickly found out that this thing can get bigger if it doesn't dissolve and its a "process".. so will my baby make it through this? since its behind my placenta can it cause my placenta to disconnect from the uterine wall?!! I am worried I will be on my toes until I know its gone.. but how long can that take?
Has anyone ever experienced a hematoma in the past? Did you get through it and was the baby okay? how long did it take to dissolve? No OB was on call because its memorial weekend, so needless to say the Dr. I saw in the ER said shes not familiar with this, and gave me the info she could get from an OB doctor in another location that she doesn't even know.. which scares me even more.

Re: HR- Bleeding- ER- Hematoma
In my case, it did detach the placenta and I bleed every other night and my poor little man doesn't have any amniotic fluid. My doctors aren't very hopeful and I haven't had very many answers. I go back tomorrow for my appointment and hopefully will get more options as to what i can do...they havent even put me on bedrest. I have heard lots of stories about everything turning out completely fine, so don't let my case cause you too much stress!!!
I pray that you've found answers and everything has healed itself!!

I have a friend from college who I email when I'm worried and she's been a lifesaver. It's not bad that you bled either because bleeding out is one of the two ways they resolve and that's quicker than waiting for it to dissolve like mine did. Even once it's gone they recommend that you be careful just because they're not sure what causes them, so just stay hydrated and try to avoid bumps (even "bumpy" sex).
