Already showing!?

Hi all,

So I am only 5 weeks 4 days but my husband and I both think I look like I am already showing... this is my first pregnancy so it is freaking me out a little bit. I thought maybe it was just me but he brought it up too without me saying anything. Anyone else experiencing this? Could it be twins?

Re: Already showing!?

  • I feel like I'm "showing" too but I think it's just a mix of bloat and some extra skin/fat from my last pregnancy. I know with a second pregnancy your uterus is already stretched out. I did have twins my first pregnancy and I didn't start feeling/looking pregnant until 11-12ish weeks. The baby (or babies) are only the size of a seed right now so it's not going to make much of a difference if it's twins or not. The only way to know is an ultrasound!

  • @cassmcb528 at this stage it is all bloat. Your baby is the size of an apple seed and your uterus is still way too small to be pushing anything out. Even if you have more than one in there you wouldn't be showing yet.

What she said. Bloat is a bitch. Try to watch your salt intake, drink tons of water, and keep mildly active to try to mobilize some of that lovely fluid.

  • Definitely bloat!
  • I'm bloat-showing at five weeks, too. I remember feeling like it came on fast with my first. I was really thin, especially in my waist, so I think that can contribute - there's not much wiggle room to hide it.

  • According to my "lovely" mother-in-law, I'm already showing. Hahaha! My husband apologizes way too much for her.
  • Definitely bloat! But bloat can totally make your stomach stick out more than usual. It's crazy! I am anxious to see when I start showing this time, with it being our 3rd. I took forever to really show with my first, and my second I started showing around maybe 28 weeks.
  • It's bloat. Your uterus isn't big enough yet. Google "fundal height". I have an extremely short torso and didn't start showing with my first until 15-16 weeks and even then, it was minimal.

  • I'm showing "bloated" at almost 6 wks this is my ninth pregnancy in 11 yrs so I'm sure I'm more than bloat. (5 living kids, 3 second trimester losses)
  • I think it may be bloating, I am also very puffy right now because of bloat.

  • Thanks everyone for your answers/advice! Glad I'm not the only one with a "blump" going on! ;)
  • I'm so glad you asked this question! I have been feeling huge and knew that if the baby is supposed to be an Appleseed that it probably wasn't that!

That being said, I have already bought a belly band to help. Bloat or bump, I was over the uncomfortable feeling from my pants! I work in an environment where I have to wear slacks all the time and those are not forgiving to my bloat so I gave up fighting and just embraced it!
  • I've been feeling very bloated for the past couple of days, I do have a hair tie around my button on my jeans but I haven't yet had to graduate to the belly band.

  • I already broke out my maternity clothes again. I'm not really showing, but I still have some fluff left from my youngest (he just turned 1). I am planning on spending as much of this pregnancy as possible in leggings/yoga pants. I am student teaching so I still need to look professional, but I can already tell that I will need the extra comfort.

  • I definitely have bloat going on (and that happens sans pregnancy to me anyways) - since TTC was taking awhile I was able to find some great "dress" slacks that aren't maternity pants, but have some stretch to them (at Kohls?) for about $10/pair. They are super comfy and I'm hoping will limit the # of maternity pants I need later...

  • I'm wearing my PP jeans from last summer that are a size bigger than my normal jeans. I'd guess I'll be breaking out maternity jeans (or buying new ones as my demi panel ones will likely be too big) in a month or so.
