scraping / stripping membranes?

Alright ladies give it to me rough.. ~:>
I'm going to get my membranes stripped tomorrow, how bad is it, what were your side effects and did anyone else really go into labor from this?
Thanks for the support ladies!

Re: scraping / stripping membranes?

  • It definitely hurts!!!!!! But, it has been known to helps jump start labor. With my first I had my daughter 5 days after my scrap. And I just had one done Monday and I had contractions for two hours afterwards but it stopped. Baby will definitely come if ready and your body is ready. I am at a 3 and 70% effaced. Let's see in the next few days if I have this little one.

  • Please keep us posted! So exciting. I am picking our induction date tomorrow too but it would be great if my body jumped on the wagon at the right time and without the need to induction

If you use the search bar this has been discussed quite recently in a previous thread and its also discussed in the weekly appointments thread.

To each it's own on the pain tolerance in my opinion though, it didn't hurt for me the first time and hurt a bit more the second time.....and no labor. Good luck.

ETA I definitely meant weekly appointments thread.

Really, five days after your scrape you had a baby? Sounds like pretty good evidence that it works, right there!
  • Why don't you just drink castor oil ..... It'll do the same thing......
  • My ob wants to do this at 40 weeks if baby isn't here by then. I don't like the though of it. If makes me queasy and hurts to even think of it.

I had it twice with my first. I didn't find it painful, just unpleasant. The painful part started when I got home and the cramping started.
  • My dr stripped my membranes at 40 weeks (last Wed). For me, it wasn't really painful, just uncomfortable pressure. I lost my mucus plug in pieces for the next couple days after, but no contractions whatsoever. 41 weeks now and my next appt is Thurs, I'll be curious to see if she does it again and if it affects anything.
  • Thanks ladies. I'm not one to post a lot I usually just read what's going on with everyone and compare situations. The castor oil is on my list to ask doc about ;)
