tdap shot?

I'm 37+4 weeks pregnant I'm 1cm dialated and my doctor said I had to get the tdap shot today because I could go into labor at anytime so she wants it in my system. My family doc can't make me an appt for 3 days and at a pharmacy it will cost me 60$ I couldn't get it today because I don't have much money. So my question how important is it to get this shot I know it helps prevent wooping cough but I read the baby can get his own shot when he is born. Has anyone gone without getting it ?

Re: tdap shot?

  • No, baby can't get it right away, which is why you should have gotten it already, really. Lots of people don't get it, and of course the vast majority of those babies are fine. If your doc said you should get it, why didn't he/she give it to you?

If you search this board you'll find a lot of other discussion about this vaccine!

  • Many people go without getting it. It's a personal choice. You by no means HAVE to get it. The baby can't get their own vaccine until 2 months. If you use the search bar you'll find this has been discussed many times over!
  • They don't give the shot at the ob office I go to. But thank you both for your answers !
  • I'm sorry, I would be livid with my OBs office if I were in your situation. First of all, because this should have been handled a couple months ago, and second, because there is no reason for the OB not to administer the shot. It sounds like your best option is to get into your family doc office as soon as you can.

  • Yea I'm not quite sure why they don't give it and why she would tell me to go to a pharmacy where its expensive to get. But I made a appt with my family doctor to get it done.
  • Just get it after delivery. We give it after delivery to mothers all the time. Not a big deal.
