i was informed from my doctor that I must get the TDAP shot. I know it's for whooping cough but if I get the shot, what about anyone else that is around my son. Won't they give it to him anyway?
you will be around your son the most. Protect yourself and him, this can be fatal to newborns. Ask your family members to get theirs updated and keep sick people away from your son.
There are literally a zillion posts on this that you should check out as lots of moms have given great insight and many are requesting friends and family who will be around the baby to get the shot as well; however to answer your question, by YOU getting the shot, you will pass some antibodies on to your baby until they are old enough to be vaccinated themselves. This will help prevent them from catching it if they are around someone who has it - it isn't 100%, but it definitely helps tremendously and as you can see on some of the other posts, some moms have gone through HELL watching their babies almost die from catching whooping cough! Not something to mess around with.
