STM - Breast milk stains

Ok Ladies, how do you get breast milk stains out of clothes? Pretty much every day my shirt is covered in lovely milk splotches that don't come out in the wash. I don't want to do something that doesn't take out the stain and end up setting it into the fabric worse...if that makes sense. Thanks!

  • I don't know, but don't put anything in the dryer if the stains aren't gone! Then you're doomed. My baby's still inside, but did you try like a stain stick or just pretreating with liquid detergent? I'd check some mommy blogs on this one. Seems like it will be a problem for all of us! Good luck.

  • Yes oxy clean!!! Even the powder works to pre treat and it's cheaper.
  • Oxyclean! Buy the biggest size you can. It takes out most poop, blood and food stains, too. If the stain is set, try soaking overnight with a full scoop or make a paste with the powder and rub it in really well. I think every new mom should be sent home with a tub of it when they leave the hospital! It also works on pit stains and ring around the collar if you soak. We buy the powder at Costco so it's cheap, too.
  • My sister kept a bucket of ozyclean and water at all times. She put her clothes and any baby stained clothes in it to soak before washing. She swears by it.
  • I can't speak from personal experience (FTM), but I have a family friend who swears by meat tenderizer. She said that it works really well for any bodily stains (I.e. Blood, poop, breast milk, etc.). She said she just makes a little paste with water and the meat tenderizer, then runs it into the stain and throws it into the wash. It could be worth a shot!
  • Buy the oxyclean on Amazon!!
  • Hi, haven't posted in a few weeks, but this caught my eye.  I agree with everyone on the OxyClean.  It takes everything out; poop, pee, formula, breast milk, fruit juice, wine (my sister, not my DD or me, lol!).  It's fantastic for when your LO starts to eat solid foods! I freak when I run out and don't have more on hand!  And Amazon is awesome for buying items you will use on a consistent basis.  You can set up subscription services and have the items delivered on a schedule, plus their Amazon Mom program provides discounts on baby-related items as well.
  • Sorry it took me so long to respond! Busy! Busy! Busy! I also haven't opened a book since I went to the hospital... lol

@Frogger5 I usually just pretreat with laundry detergent and I definitely let a few tops go through the dryer before I realized that milk stains are challenging to remove! So I may be toast with those tops.

It looks like oxyclean from target or amazon it is. Thanks ladies!

@madelynnschmidt i've never heard of using meat tenderizer... to be honest i'm not even sure what that is. I mean, I do know in the abstract sense that it's used to tenderize meat. But ya, why do people tenderize meat? It must be a red meat thing (which I don't eat) ;)
