What's your focal point?

I see focal point as a suggested item to bring for birth and while I realize that item will most likely get thrown at someone, I'm willing to try. I just can't think of anything that would be relaxing to look at during childbirth. Does anyone have one?

Re: What's your focal point?

  • I don't know what you mean. Can you elaborate?
  • Loading the player...
  • I am getting an epi, so no need for me :) however if you are going med free and want one...maybe a picture that has a lot of meaning? A saying that means a lot to you that you can read?
  • What about an ultrasound photo of you baby? He/she is why you're doing it!

  • I used my sons u/s pic when I was in the hospital last time. Really helped me remember why I was doing it.

It's something you look at during contractions to help you concentrate as a way to help with the pain. I see it on all my lists of suggested items to bring to the hospital and since I'm going med-free it's worth a shot.
  • Gotcha! I would say then a sono pic for sure. Maybe the same thing can be achieved with music too?
  • I plan to use one of the plaques I have around the house with a specific bible verse or phrase on it. I might even print something out to hang up with a verse on it.
  • I haven't decided but I might use a NB onesie or socks or something adorable as mine to remind me that at the end I will have a cute little guy wearing that item!
  • This is a nice idea. I might try it myself! Not really relevant to the birth but perhaps photos (as in a slideshow on a laptop/tablet) of a holiday or a place where you feel/felt relaxed?
  • I plan to listen to music and close my eyes
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Maybe a cute decoration piece from your nursery? Not sure if I will use it, but I have a small wooden anchor in our nautical nursery we might use

For me for #1 - it was a penguin!
  • For me it'll be my husband. I know it sounds weird because I might be threatening him by the time its time to push but he keeps me so calm and relaxed that I don't know if I'd need anything else. Just in case though I'll bring a onsie
  • Truthfully, when contractions hit for me, I didn't see or hear anything. I focused on relaxing the muscles and breathing, and that took all my focus. They suck. Badly.

Truth.  All I could focus on was what I could do to make them stop.

  • I'll try and go natural but I'm sure I'll end up getting an epidural. I'm a wimp with pain. Leading up to it I plan to use my husband as a focal point. He really is the only one who can keep me calm and make me feel better at any time. And he wouldn't mind if I gave him the bird a few times ;)
  • Thanks these are some good ideas. Maybe I'll try something of the babies to keep my eye on the prize.

I say a written phrase or word that gives you strength :)
