Cat lovers, who are alittle nervous.

So I have 6 cats, I was nervous about the nightime while I'm sleeping and the baby. Not that they would intentally hurt the baby but that they would just jump in and accidently sratch him or something. So I got this bassinet,keeps the kitties out! Got it at babies r us, the brand is Dream on Me if any one else is looking for a simuliar solution to newborn sleeping in the room with you.

    I have 5 cats (four large dogs, and two bearded dragons)! Yay for crazy cat people! Lol. I LOVE this idea. Thank you for sharing :D .

    We have multiple cats (and other animals), but I am not concerned with any of them injuring baby. Our animals are accustomed to sleeping with us if the door is open, or sleeping elsewhere if the door is closed. I think it is important that cats are allowed to explore baby and baby's space or they will be constantly trying to figure out what this new intruder is! The bassinet you found is great, but a determined cat may still find herself sleeping in there with baby.

    I have 3 cats and a dog myself and I'm more worried about them "claiming" (they don't spray/mark but they can get possesive of their favorite spots) the crib/pack and play for themselves before the baby can even get here. We have everything still in boxes and are waiting until the last minute to set everything up. The other issue is pet hair. I have clothes and such in big tuperware bins because the pet hair gets everywhere no matter how much I clean.

    I had two cats when we brought DS home. Cats have been known to curl up next to baby's face because they smell like milk. Please don't let cats in where baby sleeps. Dangerous!

    I can't find any reported verified incidents of cats harming a baby badly other then scratching them, its more dogs I'd be afraid of. Saying that I'm obviously going to keep an eye on my cat and have bought a dome that goes over the moses basket just in case. I think you simply have to keep an eye your cats temperament, some may be jealous of the baby while others will be terrified of it and some may not care.

    The hospital also suggested to me to bring a blanket from the baby home and let the cat have that before the cat has access to the baby.

    I'm concerned about my two cats as well. They are big cats and seniors. I will try not to freak out and let them be why I keep a watchful eye on them . Great suggestions ladies.

    What we did is set up our basinette and crib before the baby came home and put foil on the bottom of both. I heard cats hate foil so they would jump in, land on the foil, and immediately jump out. After a few times they stopped trying and it was never an issue once we brought baby home

    I personally find it easier to just close the bedroom door and keep any pets out of the room.

    @kelseyrayay under $60 can't remember exact price $50 somethin. I can't keep cats out of my bedroom they would cry all night at the door, I plan on keeping them out of the babies room by either closing door or installing a screen door.

    I only have one cat, but I was reallllly hard on her after my first daughter was born.  I was always worried she would do something insane like sit on her.  However, besides sniffing around her when she first came home, she pretty much wanted nothing to do with the baby.  A trend that has continued on to this day as the baby is now a three year old tornado. :)

    I was lucky with my daughter - the cat seriously hated her and went from sleeping in my bed every night to not wanting to be in the room because of the baby. She didn't like the noise and the fidgeting and kept her distance for the most part. Now they get along pretty well but I don't worry about shutting her door all the way because I know there is no way that cat is climbing into the crib. She will push it open on occasion and yowl though . . .

    Ditto here.  Our cat hasn't spent much time in the future nursery, so it won't bother him at all when that door is closed at night.  But he sleeps in our room (usually in the bed by our feet) every night.  If we close him out of the room even for just 20 minutes, he meows and claws at the door and usually ends up tearing up the carpet.  

    We plan to use a bassinet in our room for the first few weeks.  We may buy one of the nets to go over the bassinet.  But honestly, I'm not that worried about it.  Has anyone actually had trouble with their cats trying to sleep on top of the baby?  I've heard that it's mostly urban legend.

    I searched for over an hour to find any news reports of deaths due to cats. There was only one that I could find, but the actual cause of death had nothing to do with the cat. Based on this, I believe it is reasonably safe to assume that the cat(s) will leave baby alone.

    Personally I am not afraid of them sleeping with the baby I'm more worried that when they chase eachother they get reckless, I have been scratched on accident many time, I just dont want them to accidentally sracth the baby.

    We have one cat. She's a real,sweety but I'm a little afraid of her being jealous of the baby. We have always kept the babies room door shut so she has known from the beginning she's not allowed in there. Even if it's open she'll look in but she won't step in. We decided to set up our bassinet soon (it will be in the bedroom) so we can start teaching her she doesn't belong in it. She catchs on to rules very quickly.

    My cat has been getting more and more aggressive in the past couple weeks. He'll attack me, and meows at all hours loudly, when he never used to. He even went to the bathroom outside of his litterbox today, which again he's never done. I'm starting to have serious thoughts on rehoming him. He's never been good with new things to begin with, and attacks anything he doesn't understand.

    If your cat started doing this suddenly, you might consider taking him to the vet for a checkup.  Loud meowing and suddenly not using the litter box can be signs that he's sick.

    I have 3 cats and one dog and they will just not be allowed in the rooms that baby will be sleeping in... Our room and his bedroom...
