Intense hip pain

i have been having hip pain in my left hip sometimes when I stand or sit for too long. This morning I woke up and it is so intense I can barely do anything. I sleep with a snoogle and lots of pillows. This morning, I can't even pick up my leg to get out of bed without experiencing a super sharp pain. Bending my leg to walk also procures an intense pain so when I do I look like I've broke my leg. Has anyone experienced this? Or Does anyone have an suggestions on how to make it feel better?

Re: Intense hip pain

  • Yep I have that every day. But I'm having twins and constantly in pain. Especially when sleeping. I just try to find the most comfortable position but tell your doctor. It could be a pinched nerve (sciatic) or it could be just a muscle issue. Either way there really isn't anything that can be done other then possibly physical therapy if it's that bad. I just deal with it and move on with my day truthfully :)

  • Chiropractor that specializes in prenatal. My SIL specializes in the Webster method & it has worked wonders for me the past 34 weeks. The only time I had back pain was when I hadn't been adjusted for 4 weeks & I was all out of whack!
    Hope you feel better
  • If I lay on either side too long, my hips tingle and start to feel like they're going numb, it's awful!! I think this is why I have been waking up on my back a few times a night now...I'm miserable with the aches and pains. I found that epsom salt baths ease it a bit and the heating pad is my best friend with my snoogle for falling asleep at night.
  • I have had this daily for a while now, I cry getting up or out of bed sometimes too. I have lots of pillows and the snoogle as well and so far the only thing that helps is getting in a pool. I feel no discomfort... Till I get out. It may be a temporary fix but when its constant any help is good help! Hope you find something that works for you.
  • I second chiropractor that specializes in prenatal. I was having this exact problem and while my hips still get stiff and sore it has been a huge improvement. Massage helps too, but again make sure they are certified in prenatal.
  • I can definitely recommend a chiropractor that specializes in prenatal.  I am a runner and have been quite active throughout my pregnancy.  I've put on about 20 lbs and the added weight has done my hips and pelvis no good.  My left hip would often go numb when sleeping, then I started having really bad shooting pains throughout the night.  I saw a chiro who is thankfully also a running buddy of mine & she got me completely adjusted.  She also showed me how to use sports tape to help create more support for my belly in order to take some pressure off of my hip.

I have found sitting/bouncing/stretching on an exercise ball has helped me so much! And fun! Also google some yoga moves. Warrior pose has really helped me. I dont look anything like the pics though lol.
  • Same problem, mine got so bad that i couldnt walk. Def see a chiropractor. Mine said that my pelvic bones were opening, as they should at this stage, but not clicking back together. Ouch! An adjustment made all the difference!!
  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Yesterday and today have been very painful. My doctor suggested a physical therapist but living in nyc makes it painful just to think about getting to the office. I've been stretching and doing yoga posses and it's definitely helped with the painful surges. I'm hoping to make it to work tomorrow but a little nervous too. I definitely can't wait for maternity leave!! Thanks again!
  • I meant to add that my doctor diagnosed it as sciatica, which is a pinched nerve around the back/hip area. She also said it won't go away until baby moves or until he's born... Good luck ladies. :)
  • I've been having this problem on my right side. My hip hurts and my leg on that side hurts, especially in the evening. Turns out baby has her head in the right side of my pelvis and her whole body is along my right (ROP position). I have gotten varicose veins behind my right knee, probably from all the pressure on that side. Midwife recomended I see a chiropracror to help baby to move.
  • I've had the same thing. It's so horrible i just sit there crying for hours till it goes away :( love my little baby but honestly can't wait for this pregnancy to be over! I hope you feel better! Xx
