Baby Jogger City Select stroller

edited June 2015 in August 2015 Moms
I am totally double-dipping on the new discussions today. Sorry in advance if this is a TB faux-pas! X_X

So DH and I just had our shower and the ONLY things we have left to get is our car seat and stroller (we were very lucky). I have had no problem selecting furniture and everything else on our registry...but I CANNOT for the life of me decide on a freakin' stroller. I am 90% sure we are decided on the Graco Click connect Snugride carseat and we already got the extra base as a gift (we can always return it if we change our mind I realize).

When we registered months ago I was pretty set on the Graco Click-Connect jogger travel system because I live in New England and the roads/sidewalks can get pretty crappy in the winter. Now I am thinking a jogger might be too bulky for everyday use, and am leaning towards the BJ City Select. (mainly because of the appeal of the 2nd seat - we plan to start trying for #2 as soon as I stop BF-ing) This stroller is not an easy sell to DH, since it is $200 more than our original choice ("What do you mean it doesn't come with a carseat? Does it have with a beverage dispenser or something?")

If you own the City Select, what are your thoughts/gripes? Particularly if you have used it with the second seat attachment and/or a Graco carseat? Is it worth the price tag? Is it good for travel? We have a LONG flight (16+ hours with 2 layovers) planned for a trip in January when DS will be 5 months old...

PS - I did do a search for previous posts on this stroller and couldn't find anything more recent than 2012...

Re: Baby Jogger City Select stroller

  • I had the graco travel system and hated it. It was heavy and awkward to lift into the car and it just really sucks. I am getting the city select this time because my kids will be 17 months apart. I will be using my Graco snug ride car seat in it until new baby can sit up on her own and then I will make it a double. I would recommend just spending the extra $200 now rather than later when you have your second.

  • I agree with buying it now! I didn't buy mine until I got pregnant with my second child. You can not find another stroller on the market that is so versatile. I have used it as a single, as a double with the seat, as a double with both seats and as a triple with the standing board. It's very hard to push with 3 kids though.

  • Have a BJ city select baught in 2011 for DS and still LOVE it. Seriously the best thing we spent money on. My dh also loves it as he claims it is not as feminine as many other stollers. Solid, easy to use and clean great accessories, (Note i did not opt for the Bj brand cup holder just got one at sears that fit) , love that you can have the baby face you when they are little. We lived in a second story walk up at the time and i have no trouble folding it and getting it up the stairs and we have seen all weather with it and it just moters through.

Aside, resale value in our area on a BJ is really good- if hubby is worried about the bottom line.

It really comes out to $400 more because we still have to buy the car seat and adapter which the Graco travel system would have come with :( That's why I'm having such a hard time justifying the purchase! But I know it makes sense in the long run...its just a BIG chunk of cash to shell out all at once...

  • I never fly with mine because you have to take it apart to fold it with more than just one seat on there. I use my kinderwagon hop when I fly.

The city select is great - solid, smooth, good for short me (5'3" and dh 6' 3").  We got it when I was expecting dd2.  It is not good for travel.  The frame is pretty heavy.  We use a McLaren umbrella when traveling (at destination) or an ergo baby carrier in the airport.

I used it with the peg perego car seat with no issue.  The 2 seat feature was the best part - I didn't want dd1 or dd2 feeling like they were traveling in the cargo area.

Albee baby have a really good deal going right now & they did when we bought ours too.  Good luck!

I literally just ordered mine on albeebaby.com because the second seat was free. If you go there you can check out the stroller sale. Some of the colors are sold out. It also didn't charge tax or shipping so it was $500.
  • We have the city select and love it! We bought the floor model on sale right after we found out we were pregnant so I haven't used it with both kids yet but it's awesome! We also have the city mini GT and its heavier but for 2 kids I found it to be the best option out there. Everything is sold separately so you don't need to buy everything at once. To save some cash up front, just buy the car seat adaptor which you may be able to buy used. I've seen people selling them before. And don't waste money on the baby jogger parent console- I hated it and ended up selling it to buy a generic skip hop one.

I bought our city select on sale (second seat free). It was expensive but I'm happy with the purchase. DH loves it because the handle bar adjusts quickly and he's quite taller than I am. It's heavy but I live in Ottawa and the weight is required to push it through snow. Excited to get to use it for #2 in the summer when she comes.

I have used it for travel but prefer not to. It's bulky and the seat comes off so it's an extra piece to worry about. We have a BJ Vue that I travel with. I wouldn't travel with anything more than an umbrella stroller.

I was actually thinking of purchasing the BJ Vue for traveling! Babies R'Us has it marked down to $139 from $199 right now. I like that you can use it with the car seat too which isn't always an option for umbrella strollers. I'm guessing you like the Vue as well?
  • @CGless @buckleyk @cllgarrison @joco @prairiedreams @jesselayne8 thanks so much ladies!

After work yesterday I stopped by BuyBuyBaby to try it out, fold it up, play with the attachments and test it out with the Graco carseat. Needless to say I loved it! So I bit the bullet and purchased the City Select last night on Amazon, with the second seat free! It took some convincing but ultimately DH said he trusted me to make the right decision :) Can't wait to try it out!

FYI - Buy Buy Baby is doing a special for the entire month of June that if you buy the BJCS you get the second seat free...however it is a rebate so you do need to buy it up front then mail the rebate in for the refund. This is the only reason I purchased it through Amazon instead, so I didn't need to pay for the 2nd seat up front.
  • We have a baby jogger city versa which is the single seat version of the city select (I think, at least they're quite similar). It has been great. In hindsight though, I probably would have got the city select, if I could have contemplated the possibility of having a second child at the time we bought it...
