Pack and Play with Bassinet

STMs- is it safe for baby to sleep in the bassinet attachment in the pack and play? We have a crib and everything in her nursery set up, but I wasn't sure what I wanted her to sleep in for the first few months. We have the pack and play with bassinet attachment, as well as the bassinet that goes with our stroller and bought the bassinet stand that it locks into. I'm just curious as to what the best option is, of those two? Or if I should abandon both and purchase a regular, free-standing bassinet?

  • We used the pack n play with attached bassinet with DD. this time I am considering a "co sleeper" that goes up against the bed and is height adjustable.
  • Thank you ladies! Being a FTM, the more I read, the more freaked out I get, so I prefer advice from those with experience! :)

DS slept in the pack'n'play bassinet for months and this one will too. LOVED it!

This minus the "loved it". My son hated it. I will say though, once we started swaddling with the A&A swaddles he seemed to sleep better. We're going with the halo bassinet this time.

  • Mine slept in the PnP bassinet for the first few months until we moved them to the crib. We never had any problems or issues :)
  • @CaliforniaDream87 if I had to go with a stand-alone bassinet, the halo is what I'd go with! It looks amazing!! Thanks @SassetteSmurfling @Miz_Liz and @cllgarrison ! I guess I will start out with the pack and play and if she hates it, we will try something else!
  • If she hates it you can take the bassinet part off and try just putting her in the raised pack'n'play without it. We found the bassinet cradled him and he was so content, we were scared he wouldn't transition well out of it but he did like a champ!
  • We're planning on using the Pack n Play bassinet as well for the first few months. Glad to hear it was useful to most of the STMs. Hopefully baby will take to it and adjust well in our case too!
  • That thing was a life saver!! Plan to use it with this baby. Only bad thing was that it tore my daughters hair out. Idk if it was the fleece or if it's bc she has mixed hair so it's coarse already. Going to try and find a way to make it work this time!!! Absolutely a great buy for sure!
  • I don't know if you are planning to breastfeed, but the Arm's Reach Co-sleeper was awesome with DS.  It actually is just like a pack n play, but it attaches to the side of your bed.  Very convenient for middle-of-the-night feedings.  DS slept in that for the first 6 months, and we may go even longer with this baby.  :)

  • We had the pack-n-play in the living room and he would nap in the bassinet part and at night time would nap in the free standing bassinet next to our bed. He slept great in the pack-n-play

Pack and play bassinet! Ours vibrated which combined with swaddling was key for us.

We used our stroller bassinet for sleeping on road trips at hotels or friend's places.
  • Yay! I feel so much better about it now! We travel so much for work/ just in general and we have the flexibility to allow baby to come always so I figured the play and play (while they're not super expensive anyway) was the best investment for our lifestyle!
  • I used the pack n play raised for my dd. We don't have the bassinet on ours, but she slept in the raised part swaddled until she was able to sit up, then we moved her to her crib in her own room. We live in an apartment so the crib takes up too much space so we are using the pack n play again. The key with anything is don't put anything in there with them. We have a sheet on the mattress but that's it. I would sassy get baby used to both if you are going to use the bassinet on the stroller too so maybe put baby in there for naps.
  • My DD1 slept in a bouncy seat for the first 9 weeks.! I had the pack n play but never thought to set it up.. Like an idiot lol. we had a regular old bassinet that we tried to use, but she would NOT sleep for more than 5 minutes in it.. But would sleep in a more inclined position in her bouncy seat for hours. Finally after a few weeks, we realized that we had the pack n play with all the gizmos and gadgets and set it up. She slept in that til 12 weeks with no issues. After that, she went straight to her crib in her room with no issues :)

She's 2 1/2 and I just had the courage to put her crib to a day bed a week ago. Lol.

This time around we are doing the pack n play from the beginning.. save myself time and hopefully sleep!
  • We used the pnP bassinet in our room for the first couple of months. Check the weight limit and make sure you don't continue to use it when your baby weighs too much for it!

I preferred using the crib with an AngelCare monitor. We may just do that this time around.
  • @CaliforniaDream87 I am looking at getting the Halo Bassinet as well - it looks incredible! Do you mind me asking where you purchased - online or in store? I have seen a few online sites that have them for a  bit cheaper than in store - but I am always so hesitant to buy large items like that sight unseen. I am in Canada too - so I am sure its probably even more here (I suppose I am assuming your in the states. lol)
  • @cosplaymom we got one with the heaviest capacity (35 lbs I believe?), and also purchased the Motorola monitor/motion sensor as well for crib!

    I purchased it through albeebaby.com

I actually find a lot of great deals on that site. Most of our "big" buys have come from there :)
