Supply and demand??

I've been exclusively breadtfeeding for 11 weeks no problem. Then today, she's started crying and fussing during the last two feedings and my boobs don't feel as hard or full. Either she's going through a growth spurt and eating more, or my production has dropped today out of nowhere??? I fed her an entire pumped bottle (like 5oz) after trying to feed off both breasts. :( anyone have this issue??

Re: Supply and demand??

  • My baby girl does this. Sometimes she's gassy or the let down is too fast or slow. Switch boobs and see if she stops fussing. If not try to get the gas out. Oats once a day helps with milk supply also .

Sounds like a growth spurt, about the right time for it, around 3 months. Also, once your breasts "learn" how much milk to produce, they won't get as hard and achy like they did in the beginning. It doesn't mean your supply dropped, your breasts are just adjusting to her feeds. Trust the boobs, they know what to do.
  • Probably a growth spurt.. your body will adjust in a day or so. The more you put her to breast will trigger your body to make more. Try lactation cookies they are great for increasing supply. Good luck. .
  • Ok turns out I do have milk.....she's just not latching anymore!!! She'll suck a few times and then fuss and pull off!!!! :( this has happened now for two days of feeds!! I know there is milk in there!! It's like she's forgotten how to get it out!! The longer I try the fussier she gets!! I switch boobs too!! :(

She may prefer the bottle. :/ My cousin had to EP for 4 months! However, her and her LO have a strong breastfeeding relationship now. She is still going at 2 years... Although now I'm sure mommy wants a break! Haha!

When mine did this same thing at 8 weeks the Dr put her on meds for reflux. She recovered well and still breastfeeds great.
