*Sigh* So my principal asked me when my due date was. I told him mid-November; however, due to my health issues I would be induced around 37-39 weeks IF I have a near perfect pregnancy - therefore, I could go as early as the end of October, but more likely the first week or so in November. I know it was a lot of information - but he did ask and I felt I should be honest with him. (Now I understand as an administrator you have to worry about long term subs and such, but I had already contacted my board of ed and discussed this with them and they told me I didn't even need to fill out my paperwork until we returned in late-August to September.) He, my principal, looked at me with all sincerity in his eyes and said, "Well, we need to narrow down that date."
Really sir? You know when sometimes people say things then they are like oh wait, that was crazy, never mind....yeah, it wasn't like that. He was like, "We need to narrow down that date soon..." Basically because (my assistant principal - not even him) can line up my long-term sub. The kicker is, another teacher is not coming back from her maternity leave until around November 16...they want me to "wait" until she comes back, so they can use the same sub....I kid you not...this is the conversation I just had with them. WOW!!!
Re: Not-so-understanding boss....small rant, sorry.
And when you go early, he will have to scramble to arrange things, which serves him right. Look up his salary online... I guarantee he's getting paid enough to deal with the minor inconvenience.
Mine told me I don't even need to tell my boss I'm pregnant if I don't want to. I have. But she said to deal with her and I don't have to tell him anything. When I go into labor I can just call or email her. It's not your job to worry about your sub.
Thanks ladies. Yes...I work with his decision making skills on a daily basis. He does have three grown children of his own...also believes female teachers should wear buns in their hair, 'stockings', heels and a dress daily as well.....
