Overweight moms--pregnancy weight gain

Did anyone not gain that much while pregnant, or even wind up weighing less at 9 months than before getting pregnant? TTC, but also trying to get in shape, and wondering if improving my fitness during pregnancy would cancel out pregnancy related weight gain (if not, it's fine, but genuinely wondering if anyone had experience with weight loss/maintenance in pregnancy).

Re: Overweight moms--pregnancy weight gain

  • I gained 20lbs being pregnant and as soon as I had my son I lost the 20lbs plus an additional 12lbs. As long as you don't over eat you should be fine. I didn't work out but I have a 2 year old so my husband and I were always out doing something so I walked a lot. Hope that helps

  • You shouldn't lose weight while pregnant. Definitely work out and stay healthy but not with the goal of losing weight. That's nuts.
  • I am 5'8" and was 185lbs the whole year before I got pregnant. Lost 4lbs from morning sickness my 1st trimester. At ds birth I had gained 14lbs. When I went home I was 185lbs again. Down 15lbs at 2mo post partum. I bf only and walk with a stroller 1-3mi or do a 20min cardio video around 3x a week.
If you are very overweight it's not unusual to maintain or lose during pregnancy due to a metabolism increase. As long as your OB is aware and supports your weight plan it is fine. Just be sure you aren't starving yourself and are eating very healthy. Good luck ttc!
