Never Google symptoms...

the last few weeks I have had trouble breathing.. Of course. I have pregnancy induced asthma, and get a cold so i chalked it all up to that.. Well.. The cold went away and I had phlegm when I coughed.. It just never left.. The last 2 days have been getting worse, and today it's ridiculous.. I can't cough it up, I'm wheezing. I haven't had to use my inhaler for awhile.. But I have pain in my back (due to lungs)
So I used the inhaler.. It went away.. (The coughing/wheezing) But first I googled it to see if it's common in pregnancy (don't remember it with my girls) and pulmonary edema pops up and All kinds of crap.. Lol I hate Google! Anyways... Does anyone else have asthma or persistent cold? It's not bad enough to go to the hospital.. And I'll talk to my doc about it wed.. Just wondering how common this all is.

Re: Never Google symptoms...

  • I get sinus on and off when pregnant - and I noticed when I get sick (colds/virus etc) I get really sick... Last time I got put on an inhaler even though I've never has asthma - I usually end up with a secondary infection
Dr said it's something to do with your body suppressing immune system as part of pregnancy
I hope your feeling better soon

  • Thank you! I always get Asthma when I'm pregnant.. So weird.. But my doctors say it's common. This fluid feeling in my lungs is so annoying though. But the inhaler makes it go away so maybe that's just part of it? I don't have asthma so I don't know if it is. But googling did not make me feel better lol
  • I've definitely needed my inhaler more since I've been pregnant. Usually at least once at night. I think it might have something to do with having less lung capacity so any sort of irritation is more significant.
  • Hm, that makes sense. Thank you
  • I have bad asthma and also sinus problems, I am on spiriva, advair, singulair and albuterol. With asthma it can either way, get worst, get better or stay the same. There are a lot of breathing exercises that you can do to help out, it is important to just stay calm and breathe :) as for having a cold, that can definitely cause your asthma to act up more, I would suggest lots of fluids, saline rinse, warm baths, tea and rest :) talk to your doctor and see what he/she suggests.
  • I don't have asthma but my husband does; although it gets hard to breathe for me it's not terrible. I've been reading up on the benefits of essential oils and so last night I tried a little "recipe" my husband went for a run and came back with bad asthma. I rubbed peppermint and lavender EO on his chest and it helped right away no inhaler needed. Maybe you can look them up and see if they work for you. I use lavender on the bottoms of my feet before bed and my sleep has improved so much. Worth a try maybe? I hope it gets better.
  • I have mild asthma and got bronchitis a few weeks ago. It lead to 2.5 weeks of very difficult breathing and a lot of coughing and mucus. Plus hospital visit for 6/7 hours! If the cough is persistent worth getting it checked out. I know the difference to how my body reacts to general breathing difficulties (eg right chest in morning) and something more (eg chest not clearing all day) - go with your instinct :)
  • I have asthma that seems to have got worse during pregnancy. I was in hospital a few weeks ago on a nebuliser as I couldn't speak it had gotten that bad.
I hate going in to the hospital for stuff, but after three hours of trying to calm it myself, I thought I best tell partner.
The hospital staff went mad at me and told me I should have called an ambulance three hours ago.

Anyway their advice was if it gets so bad you can't speak in full sentences, or you're fighting with yourself to get a decent intake of air - call an ambulance. It was scary and I feel so selfish for not going in, baby was fine and getting enough oxygen from my blood but it can cause them distress.

It's never not important enough, get seen about it by whoever you can :)
  • Well.. It's not bad at all tho and don't even feel like an asthma attack.. It's just, trying to clear it out. If I don't take the inhaler, i can't clear it out and it's like breathing through a stuffy nose, but in my lungs? But when I take the inhaler? I just cough once and it comes right out.. So I feel I can wait till my doc app on the 10th to ask her about it.. Maybe I should just take it every 4 hours till it clears up, vs as needed.

Thanks for all the advice ladies. And yea I need to try oils. I love all natural remedies so I'm always looking for more.
  • Exactly the same symptoms here, even with the phlegm that won't shift - went to the Dr, as I walked in he said "I see your asthma is playing up", my response "but I don't have asthma", the Dr "you do now... brought on by the pregnancy"
  • I got a cold about a month ago, feeling fine now but the sinus congestion has lingered way longer than it would have if I weren't pregnant. Love me some nasal saline spray but getting tired of having to use Breathe Right strips at night.
  • I'm the queen of Google. Unfortunately. Lol. I never had asthma til now. And I've been to the ER twice now due to being so out of breath that I couldn't even carry on a conversation. Dr insisted on doing a CT scan with the icky iodine to rule out a blood clot in my lungs. Talk about terrifying. They gave me breathing treatments which made me shake like a crack head. Its been awful. I avoid going up the stairs because I feel like I'm going to hyperventilate. Its such a scary feeling. Now that they ruled out blood clot I haven't been googling as much. But I was hardcore researching for weeks prior making myself worry sick
  • Geez! That is scary! Pulmonary edema and pulmonary embolism.. I rather just say it's athsma.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets athsma while pregnant.. Sorry though that yall have to feel this to. Even though I know what it is, it causes me to panic. I have a doc app tomorrow, so I'm going to mention it to her. Like I said when I keep up on the inhaler, I can breath and clear my lungs.
