I started my LO on 2oz of pumped breast milk at 1 week. She struggled drinking it all but eventually did. I would start with 1.5oz so you don't waste any! We use the Dr. Browns bottles. She is 5 weeks and will drink 3oz now! Good luck!
Thanks! I have about 2-2.5oz pumped ready to go and I plan to pump again before he tries the bottle. That way there is extra if needed and if not it'll go in the fridge for another time.
DH said it went really well. I was in the other room trying to get some sleep but really listening for how it went. My only concern is that he drank the milk really fast. We may need to look at getting a nipple that has a slower flow.
But he did a 5 hour stretch after that (4 of those hours fast asleep - yay) and we just did our next breastfeed and he had no difficulty remembering what to do! We will do this again tomorrow! Happy mom here
Try to make the bottle feed as much like the breast as possible - don't let them suck the nipple in, get a nice deep latch like the breast. This minimizes the chance of the bottle affecting breast feeding.
Sometimes it helps if you are in another room so LO can't smell/sense you. If they know you are there they might fight it more and want your breast. We did a bottle for the first time a few days ago and it went great. I stayed in the other room until DS was happily guzzling milk. We started with 3 oz but ended up getting a little more because he was really hungry.
I used AVENT newborn. I pumped probably 8oz because I was going to be gone for the night, stored it in one bottle and poured it into another for feeds. My husband couldn't get her to take it, he called me and she was screaming...had been for a while. He came to me and she took the bottle from me right away. Downed an ounce pretty quickly, the next ounce was slow going and I'm not sure if she finished it. He filled it with 4oz because my first baby drank that much off the bat, but not this girl. Some was wasted.
