35th percentile for size

I was told at my 20 week appointment that my baby girl is in the 35th percentile for size. I'm torn. I don't know if I should be concerned or grateful.

Re: 35th percentile for size

  • My baby boy measured in the 40th percentile at 17 weeks. There is nothing wrong with being in the 40th percentile, but I have to go for a growth scan every 7 weeks due to hypothyroidism. They said as long he doesn't go down that it's ok. My boyfriend and I were both 6lbs babies so I'm trying not to worry about it, but it's hard. My next scan is on the 19th.

  • Sometimes I think science stinks, it gives us too much to stress over.... things we can't do anything about!!! I can see how that could be very concerning, however, my doctor told me that this is a time of huge growth spurts for baby (and mommy, hello is that my belly button popping already?!). 35th percentile this week could be 50th a month from now. Unless your doctor is concerned, try to relax mama.

  • I think @zaclina has it. They grow in spurts. If you caught your baby just before a spurt, it might measure small. Ours measured in the 86th percentile at 20 weeks but has measured right on prior to that. Our doc said it didn't mean much at this stage.

  • I have not been told what percentile the baby is in, but at an ultrasound at 22 weeks baby weighed 1 pound 13 ounces- which from what i read that is huge for 22 weeks. I am nervous because my last baby was 10 pounds 11 ounces at birth (vaginal delivery).

Anything between 10-90 is normal. Healthy babies fall all over that spectrum. If the doctor didn't tell you to worry, don't and enjoy!

Ugh... I.K.R @amberrmariee20 !! Doc says they will induce early so i have a chance delivering vaginally.
  • @nsaid4u I have to see an obstetrician at 7 months to find out if I'll be induced 3 weeks early or c sectioned 2 weeks early ! gotta love having big babies !
  • If everything else checked out okay in your scan, I think you're fine. My friend's daughter was small her whole pregnancy. Well, she sure as heck made up for it once she was born! She's a huge baby now. My friend says she would eat all day if she let her, lol!
  • That doesn't sound bad. Some babies are just little. As long as the doctor isn't worried....

  • Thank you for the reassurance ladies. I guess I'll choose to relax and just be happy that she is doing fine and hope that I will not have to push out a 10lb baby! Lol.
