Etiquette for thank you card?

So my baby shower is today. The last several days I have been receiving boxes in the mail with gifts in them. I opened one of the boxes yesterday and it included the name of the giver and return address, but I have no idea who this person is and nor does my husband. We are wondering if it is a friend of the in-laws but seeing how we don't talk to them that would be weird

Anyway, since I have their address do I send a thank you card? What do I say?

Re: Etiquette for thank you card?

  • Absolutely! Just make it generic. Thank you so much for the blah blah blah our LO is going to love it and get so much use out of it. Thank you!

  • That is weird.  Yes, still send a TY card.  Just say what you would in any other card.

    Dear Person I Don't Know,

We received your gift and wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you thinking of our new baby.  The baby blanket is beautiful and we know baby will be snug and warm wrapped up in it.  Thank you again for your generous gift.

    Best,

It's kind of brief because you obviously don't know them, but you acknowledged the gift and that's what matters :)
  • My moms client sent me a knitted blanket and a card. I have never met them before! So when I wrote the card, I was generic but very thankful for their kind thought. I know what you mean, but thank you cards really do make a difference. I still haven't gotten one from a girl who had her baby and I'm like.. Hmmm did she not get it? Lol
  • Was it an item off a registry? When DH and I married we received a gift from someone that neither of us knew. It turned out that our registry item had been packaged with the wrong card and another couple had received the card from DH's family friends.

It was from the registry but purchased through Walmart instead of Amazon
